Since @KevinScarbinsky decided to write an article about what I posted on Twitter/X, let’s go over the entire commentary before anyone else tries to burn me at the stake.

First off, I asked a question. That’s what sports analysts do. I asked a question to get others’ opinions and commentary. Last time I checked, that’s currently a freedom we still have in this country.

Anyway, let’s go over all that I said.

This was my first tweet:

“Question: is it time for Alabama to move on from Patrick Murphy? It’s been 12 years since their last national title.

Disappointing ending to Alabama softball’s season, but they went much farther than we all thought they would after how they played this season.

Need to get a hitting coach, and need to get some power hitters. In 2012, we had slap hitters, but we also had power hitters, and that was the game changer for winning a national title. You can have the best pitcher in the country, but if your team can’t hit, you’re not going to win. Simple as that.

Time for some changes to be made for sure.”

I then tweeted this:

“It was simply a question haha. I’ve opened the floodgates to some angry elephants. I’m a die hard Alabama fan. Of all sports. But conversations like these have to had at some point. I’m not bashing Murphy at all. He’s done at tremendous job at Alabama. But, there’s been no national title in 12 years. No other Alabama sport that has won a national title has fans that are okay with not winning another one in over a decade. Just food for thought.”

And then this:

“Let me say this since I’m being burned at the stake for asking the question if it’s time for a head coaching change in softball. I asked to start a conversation. I asked to get others’ opinions. Apparently that’s a crime these days haha.

I’m not in anyway discounting what Murphy or any of the girls have done for that program. There’s no doubt that Murphy has created a program that has historically made it to the WCWS almost yearly.

But, are we really saying it’s okay that we’re content with 1 national title in his 25 years at Alabama?

Alabama has not won a national title since 2012.

Name one other Alabama sport (besides golf) that fans wouldn’t be losing their minds if that program hadn’t won another championship in over a decade and coaching changes weren’t made?

Alabama athletics = a standard of success.

The goal of all sports is a national title.

It took having several coaches to get the basketball program where it should be.

I can’t imagine having a football program that made it year after year to the playoffs and didn’t win, and fans weren’t mad.

Once again, I asked a question to start a conversation. Because I think it’s an important conversation to have.

What needs to change?
How can Alabama get past this slump of making it to the WCWS and not winning it?”

I stand by what I asked. I stand by my comments.

We live in a society that’s super sensitive and for whatever reason, having honest conversation and dialect is now seen as negative rather than productive.

I never said “Alabama should fire Murphy.”

I simply asked a question, and even suggested other options for change.

Murphy is a great man. I’ve known him since 2010.

But he’s also paid to win. And Alabama has struggled to do so the past few years.

It’s one thing to make it to the WCWS and win.
It’s another thing to make it to the WCWS and lose the first game year after year and struggle to stay alive in the elimination games.

Alabama also continues to lose star players to the portal each year. That’s concerning. If Alabama still had Lexi and Skylar, you’re probably looking at a championship caliber team this year.

I’m also not discrediting what Murphy has done for the program. But even Nick Saban knew when it was time for him to step away.
