I suspect the issue here is that - as we reported last week - any cut to benefits next year will be dwarfed by the cost of the Milburn employment support measures.

Even if ministers cut benefit payments for current claimants, they are not expecting to reduce the *overall* bill until 2030 at the earliest.

If anyone wants to read something different to the budget … I wrote about my thyroid, my baby and me.
As I said, I was worried this was an over share but my hope is it helps other women who have an auto immune condition. It’s not easy.
Some of the reader’s comments fear this ting women off having babies. It’s not. I love babies, I hope more women have more babies and it hasn’t put me off pregnancy either. However I wanted to contribute to an honest conversation about the mental world that pregnancy is and what it does to the body.

John Healey will freeze NHS prescription charges at £9.90 for another year in his Budget tomorrow.

It will form part of the "breathing space" measures for household bills - and continues a freeze first announced by Rachel Reeves.

A "package" on energy will address some short term pressures - especially for benefit claimants - and suggest long-term reform for pricing, possibly to decouple electricity prices from gas.

We also understand Healey has ruled out any changes to the 60% "tax trap" for higher earners, which were mooted in Keir Starmer's survival plan that leaked to @SamCoatesSky.
