THESE will make you a high quality candidate for software engineering...

Coachability.
Soft Skills.

In my conversation with @JohnVandivier, he highlights that these two traits of software engineers really help you stand out.

John has found the research on post-secondary and highlights a skill gap in soft skills.

That is, between traditionally educated and alternatively educated individuals in the eyes of employers, one of the biggest skill gaps observed is not technical... but soft skills!

What are your thoughts on this?

Fixing Autofac Circular Dependencies in .NET C#

This video is part of a series where we will explore how to create a facade in C#. We will be using a repository as a basis for our facade and then exploring some of the challenges and benefits. Our facade will be composed of where we will use Autofac to load them in dynamically at runtime.

As a developer, it might seem pretty daunting to level up your soft skills... but here’s what you can actually do:

- Ask someone for feedback on a recent code review interaction.
- Spend a few minutes observing how your peers communicate in meetings.
- Follow up with a teammate who didn’t get to share their thoughts in the last sync.
- Try changing up your next meeting invite: attach a doc, set a better time, or ask in advance what people need to prep.

You don’t need a ton of time -- seriously, a focused 30-60 minutes will get you moving. And after a week or so of picking at these things, you’ll notice more awareness of how you interact (and how others react).

Don’t say:
“I’m just not good at the soft skill part of the job.”

Try:
“I’ll pick one little area and see what changes if I work on it today.”

What's one thing you'll try to pay more attention to with soft skills?

Maybe "Agile" isn't working for you because...

You aren't actually being agile.

Many teams do it. We've all seen it before.

You might even be on a team that's doing it RIGHT NOW -- and that's okay, because awareness is the first part.

In this discussion with Jade Wilson, she ams are stuck in a process.

None of the values of scrum (or other Agile approaches) are being considered.

Of course, if you're hyper-focused on a process, you might even notice that just by the definition of the word you're not being very agile!

Is your team truly being Agile?

So this was super cool because when I tried out the decision playground from Parallel, I had two immediate reactions:

1 ) Oh MAN was that fast (when you can see the results immediately with the sources, it's pretty crazy)

2) ... But I don't think I know how to structure questions properly like this, so how can I benefit?

I had to flip the script a little bit. Instead of thinking about it like "Why wouldn't I ask an LLM in chat?", I think the better question is "If I need decisions made FAST and for very low cost, how would I accomplish that?"

I have a couple of scenarios where I'd like to take some input, research, and then get a score associated with the result. And this definitely checks the box.

If you have been following some of my side projects, you know I had to do a little check on Unity vs Unreal for working with agents! Looking forward to using this more.

WebJev, for the win!

Introducing the Parallel Decisions API: the first web-grounded decisions engine.

Decision models like Jev can answer in an instant, but they lack the recency of current news. Now you can get both in a single call.

Decisions API is live today at $0.001 per request.

Try it with tps://t.co/tu4CidUdxV

Here are some examples we've been experimenting with:

- Fact-check content (@Grok is this true?)
- Refresh stale banking records
- Classify companies and leads with fresh signals
- Backtest trading strategies
- Track competitor e-commerce inventory

And my little experiment here -- Close! I did expect Unreal might pull ahead of Unity, but that also could be the bias of my social feed showing me people building stuff in Unreal :)

I'm telling you that it feels like these results were hitting my screen faster than the reported 0.6 sec haha
