The Islamic slave trade was the most evil, long lived, and pervasive in world history

There is a huge, racist project to minimize that.
"Slavery was universal" typical deflection dressed as honesty. Transatlantic chattel slavery was a distinct system, racialised, capitalist, with children as inheritable property and African life treated as expendable.

Islam is not a race. You don’t choose your race. You are born with it. Religion is different. You can leave it.
But people like Mehdi Hasan pretend it’s the same thing. In Islam, if you’re born into a Muslim family, you’re a Muslim. Once you leave, you’re an apostate who deserves death.

I was born into Islam. They whispered the Shahada in my ears as a newborn. That made me Muslim.
Now I’m against Islam and Sharia. Proudly.

Religion is not race. You have a choice.
Being against Islam and Sharia doesn’t make you a racist.
Be loud about it. Don’t let them shut you up.
If only blatantly racist shit like this got even 1% of the media coverage and bipartisan political outrage that random ads criticizing Israel do.
Community note
Islam is a religion, not a race. Muslims come from many ethnic backgrounds.

Sharia is a religious legal system.

Criticizing or rejecting aspects of a religious legal system that conflict with constitutional rights is not racism.

we don’t talk about how horrible rent control is

because you can’t move

if your neighbor starts harassing you, you get a stalker, you need a larger apartment because you’re raising a family

or you have a 2-3 bed but are now an empty nester there’s no incentive to move!

rent control is a disease that should be eliminated
“A kid-hating crone has turned a luxury Upper East Side building into a living hell for her upstairs neighbors — driving at least three families out of their apartments all while racking up nearly $88,000 in unpaid rent, a new lawsuit claims.

Anne Stockton, 72, is being sued by the owner of 85 East End Avenue for allegedly tormenting the family of five currently living in the unit directly above her cushy, $1,775-a-month rent-stabilized apartment on the 10th floor.”

Realize what she’s saying here: she wanted you to indefinitely subsidize her $356,901 loan with payments of just $500 per month so she could get a useless degree that qualifies her to lecture you on how you should give her more shit
My student loans were taken out based on generous income based repayment plans with monthly payments of around $500.

Now thanks to Trump killing off the SAVE plan for no reason but he hated Biden it will be ballooning to $1400 a month and will end up at 4Xs the loan amounts. ch of contract??

How rare was what happened at the end of Indiana–Minnesota?

Before that game, there had never been an NCAA or NFL game in which both teams made a field goal of 60 yards or longer in the final 30 seconds of regulation.

First time in the history of the sport of football.

Rock has this right, and the numbers make it even better.

Vanderbilt broke the steamboat monopolies by cutting the New York to Albany fare from $3 to 10 cents, then to free, and still profited on food sales. His Nicaragua route drove the New York to California fare from $600 to as low as $150.

Rockefeller: kerosene cost 26 cents a gallon in 1870. By 1885 it was 8 cents. Light after dark stopped being a luxury for working families.

Carnegie: steel rails ran about $160 a ton in the mid 1870s. By the late 1890s they were $17.

Ford: a Model T cost $825 in 1908. By 1925 it was $260, and he doubled his workers' wages along the way.

The pattern continues today. Jobs put computing power that once cost millions and filled a room into your pocket for a few hundred dollars. Gates put a computer on every desk and drove the price of software toward zero, and he did it decades before he took up preaching the morality of giving wealth away instead of the morality of creating it. Bezos cut the price of nearly everything you buy and delivers it to your door in a day. Musk cut the cost of reaching orbit by roughly 90 percent and forced the entire auto industry to build electric cars people want.

Every man on this list got rich by making life cheaper for millions of people he never met. These fortunes were earned by lowering bills on a scale no government program would even claim to be able to match. And the fact is that such government programs ultimately have the complete opposite effect.
Name one? How about a few?

Rockefeller lowered the cost of kerosene through efficient refining and distribution.

Ford made automobiles affordable through mass production.

Carnegie reduced steel production costs through industrial innovation.

Walton lowered retail prices through bulk purchasing and efficient logistics.

Dell made computers cheaper by eliminating retail intermediaries.

Kamprad made furniture affordable through flat-pack manufacturing and distribution.

Bezos intensified retail competition through Amazon.

Koum made international messaging practically free through WhatsApp.

Page and Brin made search, navigation, email, and translation available without direct charges.

And that's barely scratching the surface.

In fact, it would be considerably more challenging to find a billionaire who earned their fortune through voluntary trade without lowering costs, improving quality, increasing productivity, or making something more accessible.

That's how fortunes are generally made in competitive markets. You create value for others, and the more people you serve, the greater your potential reward.

You don't even have to buy from these businesses to benefit. Their competitors must improve their offerings or risk losing customers.

These clout chasers destroy their credibility daily without so much as flinching.

They enjoy the accumulated benefits of capitalist innovation while confidently demanding evidence that any of it ever happened.

The economic illiteracy would be impressive if it weren't so commonplace.
