πŸ‘‹πŸ½ Hi, I'm Tasha.

As an atmospheric scientist, I spent years reading storm data for anomalies. Now I hunt them in network traffic.

Same instinct, different domain. πŸ“Š

By day, I'm a Senior Data Analyst living in SQL, Python, and dashboards. I founded DataSec Chronicles to cybersecurity β€” the real learning journey. The wins, technical hurdles, and study strategies, from earning my ISC2 CC βœ… to working toward SC-900 and Security+.

DataSec Chronicles is the story. DataSec Labs is where I put it into practice β€” interactive challenges and hands-on projects you can actually try.

I've been online since dial-up screamed at you before letting you in and Y2K was going to end the world. πŸ˜‚ The interwebs raised me; now I'm learning to defend them.

Whether you're a data nerd, a cyber practitioner, a fellow career-changer, or just someone who appreciates good data hygiene and a warm cup of chai, welcome to my corner of the interwebs.

What to expect:

πŸ” Data & cyber insights β€” complex concepts made simple
πŸ“š The pivot journey β€” study tips, resource reviews, and what I'm learning
🌱 Community β€” a space to learn out loud and grow together

Drop a comment introducing yourself, what you're working on, or what brought you into tech πŸ‘‡πŸ½

I have a confession to make…

I still Google things I should probably know by now. πŸ˜‚

And after 10+ years in tech, I’ve learned that’s perfectly normal.

πŸ“– The Security Dictionary: PATCH MANAGEMENT

Finding vulnerabilities is one thing. Fixing them is another!

β†’ Plain English: Patch Management is the process of identifying, testing, deploying, and verifying updates that fix known vulnerabilities and help reduce security risks.
utine maintenance for your digital systems. Just as you maintain your home or car, software needs regular attention to stay secure.

β†’ Example: A vendor releases a security update to fix a vulnerability. The team evaluates the patch, tests it, deploys it, and confirms it installed correctly.

β†’ Why I'm learning it: As a Data Analyst expanding into cybersecurity, I see the connection to managing processes, tracking changes, and verifying results.

πŸ’‘ My takeaway: Identifying a vulnerability is only the beginning. Remediation matters, too.

That connects right back to our recent lessons on Vulnerability Management, CVE, and CVSS! πŸ”—

October was a sprint: 31 days of security habits, 5 builds, a whole challenge in public.

November and December are different. Depth over volume.

My plan for the rest of 2026 β€” out loud, so you can hold me to it:

πŸ”§ 3 builds
πŸ“š 1 cert retake
πŸ” steady reps

The big one is a Tiger Cloud SOC home lab (real Windows logs β†’ anomaly detection β†’ Grafana). Plus AlertCadence v2, an ATT&CK triage skill, and the SC-900 retake πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Nobody warned me that adulthood would require so many random skills. πŸ˜‚

One minute you're comparing insurance plans.

The next you're troubleshooting Wi-Fi, negotiating with a toddler, or figuring out why the washing machine sounds like it's preparing for takeoff.

Here are a few skills I never expected to need. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Becoming a financial analyst at the grocery store.

Suddenly you're calculating price per ounce like you're defending a doctoral dissertation.

Developing the ability to function while approximately 17 things need your attention.

Somehow, dinner still has to happen.

What's one completely unexpected skill adulthood forced you to learn? πŸ˜‚

I think it goes both ways.

AI is changing how we detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats. It's also introducing new attack surfaces that defenders need to understand.

Knowing how to use AI is valuable. Knowing how to secure it is just as important.
I think Cybersecurity+AI knowledge is going to be the deadliest combination in the coming years

Quick question: did anyone else stargaze while trick-or-treating on Halloween? πŸŒ™βœ¨

Walking home with my little one and my husband, we kept stopping to look up. Best part of the night, and it wasn't even candy related.
