Stephan, they analyzed major campaigns of the 20th century (and later expanded datasets) in *Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict* (Columbia University Press, 2011).

They maintain major datasets through the Nonviolent Action Lab, including the NAVCO (Nonviolent and Violent Campaigns and Outcomes) Data Project (one of the leading global datasets on mass mobilizations), the Women in Resistance (WiRe) Dataset (with Zoe Marks), and the Crowd Counting Consortium (with Jeremy Pressman), which documents U.S. protests.

Current projects include work on the recent decline in civil resistance success rates, the impact of women’s participation in movements (forthcoming book *Bread and Roses* with Zoe Marks), AI’s effects on pro-democracy movements, and analyses of U.S. protests (including 2020 antiracism uprisings and later mobilizations).

Their research appears in outlets including *The New York Times*, *Washington Post*, *Foreign Affairs*, *The Economist*, NPR, and TEDx talks. They have contributed to *Political Violence @ a Glance* and *The Monkey Cage*.
