Why is the creator of OpenCode pretty skeptical about AI productivity gains, and the hype around AI? A very conversation @thdxr (and lots of truth bombs:)

• @turbopuffer – a vector and full-text search engine built on object storage. It’s fast, cheap, and extremely scalable turbopuffer.com/pragmatic

Three interesting thoughts from Dax:

1. No AI-native coding agent company is “winning” by being better with AI.

Dax says that none of OpenCode’s competitors are crushing them, and that nobody is using AI so well that others cannot compete.

2. Most software engineers profit from AI as time gained, not increased output — unless you change incentives!

Dax says the natural way for software engineers to “cash out” their AI tooling gains is with time savings, by doing the same work as before, but faster. Until compensation and motivation structures change, most teams should expect output to stay flat while engineers go home earlier. There’s nothing wrong with this, but AI vendors sell a different outcome to CFOs: increased output.

3. AI code generation mutes the “guilt” of doing the wrong thing, but this builds up tech debt.

Pre-AI, writing a hack felt bad, the second time it felt really bad, and by the third time you’d often just refactor in order to fix up the code. Now, the agent hides the hack, which skews devs’ judgment and results in less tech debt being cleaned up.

What if we could run Postgres as a single file, and take advantage of the best SQLite has to offer?

Today I am announcing pg-micro, a crazy experiment I've been undertaking to make this happen.

pg-micro is different than other approaches because it is fully local, and expected concurrency limitation and no statement translation.

Here's how it works: we use the actual postgres parser to parse the statement, but compile that to the Turso AST. The Turso AST is then compiled do bytecode, and from there everything executes natively, as it'd do in SQLite. This makes it a perfect target to run in any environment.

There is traditionally a mismatch between Postgres and SQLite in terms of functionality. But @tursodatabase has been hard at work to close this gap: things like MVCC and a rich, strict type system are present in Turso. There are PRs for things like lateral joins, etc. This means that the gap can be closed until it theoretically reaches zero.

What you could do with it? Just imagine for example a primitive like Durable Objects by @Cloudflare, but with a postgres interface? Or imagine you could use the same pattern of local databases for agents that SQLite gives you, totally ephemeral and free, but with a Postgres interface? Or even that you could execute remote postgres in platforms like @vercel but with the unmatched density of the Turso Cloud?

Expect lots not to work at this point. But as usual, this is done in the full spirit of OSS, so PRs welcome!

It was a year ago when we decided to go rewrite SQLite. And we are fast approaching a stable release. In this release:
* Concurrent writes are enabled by default in the build, and creating indexes no longer block writes (and vice versa). This was *the* thing that people always complained about SQLite, and we're happy to be getting close to the finish line here!
* Partial sync is now available: sync just parts of a sqlite database, which is particularly powerful for agents who need to start running ASAP and may not touch the full dataset.
Turso v0.4.0 is out! Major improvements to MVCC (still experimental) and sync. Check it out!

I don't use Zed, Cursor, VsCode. I never have that many tabs open in my terminal either.
My current setup:
- Ghostty
- Claude Code in tab one
- NeoVim in tab two
and other tabs are either used to run / execute code, or have long running local servers.
The only subscription I pay for is Claude Code. You don't need more than this. You don't need to have multiple subscriptions.
Stop getting fooled

New Argo CD Add-On Alert!

A newly created Argoproj-Labs project by Eugene Dudin introduces a new controller for MonoRepo users. Derived from Pasha Kostohrys’ Application Change Controller.

✨ What it does:
This controller is an Argo CD add-on that accurately tracks the last commits that actually changed the application (Change Revision). It is useful with ArgoCD notifications controller.
It is especially useful when several Applications are looking at different paths within the same repository/branch — a very common pattern when working with monorepos.

Instead of showing every commit made to the repo, this add-on surfaces only the commits that really impact your application. Cleaner insights, less noise, better GitOps workflows.
