Q Shroud in the wild!
🔥 I'm Heating My ENTIRE House This Winter While Mining Bitcoin!

What if the electricity you're using to mine Bitcoin could ALSO help heat your home during the cold winter months?

Well, that's exactly what I'm doing this winter with the Canaan Avalon Q Home Bitcoin Miner!
://t.co/f59nsfH7Vi

If you're familiar with ASIC Bitcoin miners, you know one thing: they generate a TON of heat! Typically, miners spend time and money trying to get rid of that heat. But during the winter, why waste it?

Instead, I'm putting that heat to work!

⚙️ Here's How My Setup Works:

My home has a traditional natural gas furnace with ductwork running throughout the house.

Rather than allowing the Avalon Q to exhaust its hot air into my basement, I've connected it directly to my home's HVAC return duct!

Here's the process:

✅ Step 1: The Canaan Avalon Q mines Bitcoin 24/7, generating heat as a byproduct of the mining process.

✅ Step 2: I installed a custom exhaust shroud from @CryptoCloaks on the back of the Avalon Q to capture the hot air.

✅ Step 3: Using 8-inch flexible ductwork, I connected the miner's exhaust directly into my furnace's return-air duct.

✅ Step 4: My home's existing HVAC system can now circulate that warm air throughout the house, helping reduce how much additional heat my furnace needs to produce.

The best part? I'm still earning Bitcoin while generating that heat!

⚡ But What About Electricity Consumption?

The Avalon Q has three different operating modes, allowing me to adjust how much electricity it consumes and, in turn, how much heat it produces.

🟢 ECO Mode: ~850 Watts / ~50 TH/s

🟡 Standard Mode: ~1,400 Watts / ~80 TH/s

🔴 Super Mode: ~1,600 Watts / ~90–100 TH/s

That flexibility is HUGE!

On a relatively mild winter day, I can run ECO Mode. When temperatures drop, I can increase the miner's power consumption to generate more heat.

And unlike a traditional electric space heater, this device is also mining Bitcoin and potentially earning rewards that help offset its electricity costs!

Now, don't get me wrong. Mining Bitcoin isn't free heating. I'm still paying for the electricity, and my natural gas furnace is available when additional heating is needed.

But if I'm already planning to mine Bitcoin, why wouldn't I take advantage of the heat instead of throwing it away?

🤖 What's Next? AUTOMATION!

Right now, I'm manually controlling the Avalon Q's power modes through the Canaan Avalon Family app on my cell phone

But my next goal is to integrate everything with @home_assistant and my Google Nest Thermostat!

Imagine this:

🏠 House temperature drops below my target.

🌡️ Nest Thermostat detects the temperature change.

🖥️ Home Assistant communicates with the Avalon Q.

⚡ Bitcoin miner increases its power consumption and heat output.

🔥 House warms up while I continue earning Bitcoin!

And when the house reaches its target temperature, the miner could automatically reduce its power consumption.

That's the vision! I haven't implemented that automation yet, but it's something I'm really excited to explore.

This isn't my first winter doing this either! Last year, I used an Antminer S19k Pro to help heat my home. This year, I'm experimenting with the smaller, more home-friendly Avalon Q.

I LOVE the concept of putting wasted mining heat to work instead of simply exhausting it outside!

🎥 I documented the entire installation process, including the custom stand, ductwork, miner setup, and my future automation plans!
