Before the age of AI, there were some magical ports made by hand like this CPS1 to Atari STe port. It runs the original game code and only replaces the graphics hardware part. youtu.be/ZWOHrtpAKlU?is…

Tonight I installed the @Mitsurugi_w dual crystal mod for the CPS1 board/ darksoft CPS1 multi to support our work on the 100% die based CPS1 system FPGA Core.
This mod involves removing the existing crystal that drives the CPU clock on the A board (10 or 12Mhz) and then putting ns that drive the crystal on the board, and then inserting this dual crystal board.
The most annoying part about this mod was removing the crystal in the first place. I have the Jasen CPS1 case, so it's kind of hard to get access to the underside of the A board, so I used a heat gun on the crystal edges patiently and removed it with plyers pulling it up (the pins are really long on the crystal). Then, I applied a bit of solder to the 4 crystal points on the board, and then inserted the socket with the heat gun and pressed it in.
Then, the rest was easy. The green wire supports QSound hardware switch, and the Yellow one goes to C9 which is a reset trigger point, and then the black wire goes to the DASH pin on the multi, which tells it to switch between 10 and 12Mhz.
My existing setup was only a 12Mhz clock as I only really used to play Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (and sometimes punisher) with this on my cab. I have legit boards for other games I plug in, so didn't really see a need for 10Mhz at the time. This mod is really cool though, and achieves the original speed on both types of games.
