Lifelong treatment isn't the final goal, but when targeted therapy keeps cancer stable for years, balancing extra drugs against toxicity is crucial.

Cancer uses "don't eat me" signals like PD-L1 to hide. Immunotherapy blocks that disguise, allowing your own immune system to recognize and destroy it.

Stopping immunotherapy due to side effects doesn't mean it failed. Immune reactions can signal a system actively fighting cancer for years to come.

Men deserve a seat in breast cancer care. As research and de-escalation advance, treatments are increasingly tailored to each unique patient and body.
Breast cancer shouldn't leave men feeling invisible in the waiting room. 🩺

Great oncology care is personal. A clinician might sis a thousand times, but it is your first time hearing it—and your care should reflect your unique body. With advancements in genetic data and treatment de-escalation, many men now have options like nipple-sparing surgery or safely skipping radiation. You deserve a seat at the table and care tailored to you. Visit bit.ly/4sg5ngf to connect with our community! 💡🤝

Even clinicians sometimes don't know men get breast cancer. Turning clinical blind spots into teaching moments helps break the stigma for everyone.

A male breast cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence or emasculating. Caught early, it's highly curable. Seek community and never fight alone.

"You're too young for cancer" is a dangerous blind spot. Cancer doesn't fit a single mold. Never let age be a reason to dismiss your symptoms.

Men get breast cancer too. BRCA mutations increase male breast cancer risk, and a lump near the nipple should never be ignored. Know your body.

"Natural" doesn't equal safe. Chemo is derived from plants and bacteria; arsenic is natural too. Don't let unproven cures delay your care.

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here.

A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy.

So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years.

The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip.

I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform.

Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post.

When a doctor says "it's probably nothing," ask six words: "How can we be more sure?" It's your team against cancer, not you vs your doctor.
