Mike Tomlin says leadership is lonely because assistants make suggestions, but the final decision and the responsibility always belongs to you
“I just think more than anything, and this was told to me early on, and it’s a real thing, assistants make suggestions and head coaches have to be comfortable with that.”
“Certainly, you’ve got to take in information, and when you have experienced assistants like I did, that information is oftentimes very good. But you’ve got to be really comfortable with the fact that the responsibility is yours. The decisions are yours.”
“And there’s a certain loneliness to leadership, and that’s okay. I discovered that, and really I discovered that I was okay with that. There is a certain loneliness with leadership, but it comes with the territory.”

Hey head coaches,
A lot of your emotional energy gets allocated to “important” people.
Recruits. Boosters. Donors. Administrators. Alumni. The media.
Even on an exhausting day, you often find another gear when one of those people needs your attention.
Just don’t forget to treat the people at home like VIPs too.
Start noticing whether your family regularly gets the most exhausted, distracted, depleted version of you.
They may not need celebrity treatment, but they do need your attention and presence when you can give it.
You put real effort into making people around your program feel important.
Bring some of that intention home.

Thank you all for the love, prayers, and support during this time. The doctors have now been able to remove 30 pounds of fluid from my brother. There’s a strong possibility he may be released today while we wait for an available date for his surgery.
I’m especially thankful for my Aunt Lorene, who brought him to Houston for a doctor’s appointment earlier this week. None of us knew he would end up being admitted to the hospital, but God works in mysterious ways. This is the same hospital where he had triple bypass surgery in 2015, so being back here brings a lot of memories.
My brother had gone to the CHI hospital in Lufkin last week for pre-surgery testing and learned they no longer accept his insurance. He was scheduled to have an ICD placed on October 9 to help protect his heart. Thankfully, he already had an appointment in Houston to discuss a longer-term solution for his heart failure. The options we’ve discussed for a long-term solution include a transplant or artificial arteries. We’re still working with his care team on the surgery date, home health services, and what comes next. I’m grateful his doctor sent him here and that the team has shown him so much care and thoughtfulness.
I’ve also been dealing with health issues of my own over the past two months. My hemoglobin levels have dropped drastically, and my doctors are concerned there may be internal bleeding. I’ve had abdominal pain and have been in and out of appointments. I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled for next week, and I’m hoping we get some answers. And I can tell you, sleeping in a hospital recliner isn’t easy on the body!
I’m not sure what this season holds, but I’m grateful God is allowing us to face it together. Please make time for your routine checkups, my people.
Thank you for continuing to pray for us. If you’d like to visit my brother while he’s still at the hospital, send me a message and I’ll share his room information.

Is there anyone else having issues with @Hudl practice scripts? We’ve been having the same issues for 3 weeks now! Can’t draw cards, existing cards won’t load.

Nick Saban warns against the biggest enemy to continued success.
"Complacency...when you get satisfied - it creates a blatant disregard for doing the right things."
"You start to resent the very things that got you where you were."
You no longer pride yourself in hard work and ourselves in hard work. Then it becomes: 'I resent that. I resent the hard work that you're making us do.'"
"'Why do I have to do this? I just had a great month. I just sold however many cars. We won so many games. Why do I have to do this?'"
That's the trap. You start questioning the process that built you.
Then he dropped the truth:
"Success is momentary. It's not continuous. It's right then - this is what you did - that's over and done with."
"You better be where your feet are and move on to the next one."
"Because when you are successful, you just become the target."
Success doesn't protect you - it exposes you.
It's a continuous process. You have to keep earning it.
This is why people tell you to stay hungry and stay humble because you can't resent the work that got you there.
