Simple choice, you can choose a program and let its stature define you, or you can choose a program and let your performance define it.

Part of the intensity of emphasis on pulling the ball in the air, is That so many amature players lack the trait
&the accelerated acquisition of the ability normally detracts from their innate barrell skills.
And the market demands this in a counterproductive way to player dev

Great piece here.
I stopped arguing this point because it got so tiresome, but Chris nails it:

Way back in 2013 I had a 5th year senior LHP who, through the schere will of being a hard-headed Northeast Philly kid, closed games on Fridays and started games on Sundays for most of the whole year
We weren't great, but Sean was a dude. We had 14 wins, he had 5 wins and 5 saves

Nothing against Joe (because he’s not the only one saying this), but the Marlins did not pioneer a “revolutionary concept”.
Mid major college baseball teams have been doing this for years: Start a guy on the weekend & then bring him back for 20-30 pitches during a midweek game

That's a Camden county kid that went from Juco to the 11th overall pick.
You can win a lot of games with a team of dudes who don't pity fools.

Yaxel Lenderborg on his NBA debut and guarding Luka: "I got to see what the NBA is like, man. Lot of flopping, lot of foul baiting, lot of praying to the ref. Interesting first game for me... Being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all "
Transcript of this soundbite:
"Yeah, it was interesting. I got to see what the NBA is like, man. Lot of flopping, lot of foul baiting, lot of praying to the ref. Interesting first game for me, for sure.
I had a lot of respect for him (Luka). You know, just watching. I didn't really watch the NBA much, I just watched highlights. Seeing him, you know, kill people all the time. But then being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man. Like that was awful.
Like me getting frustrated, it's not about the foul being called, it's about him complaining the entire game. And then you get the foul call, congratulations bro. And then you talk to me like you did something great, bro? Come on, dog. That's just weak. It kinda threw me off for a little while, cause you know, like I said, I had so much respect for him. Gone man, gone.
I was telling him he sucks, he can't score on me. You talking and you can't score on me. I said it the whole game. I said a couple cuss words obviously, you know, that's why I got the technical and all that. But I was letting him know, because he was laughing and talking all this because of that one foul call.
His only bucket on me was a banker from half court. Like I know that it's a team sport. You know, he had 28pts on us as a team. Me, I took my matchup personally. Tried not to get caught on the fouls. Tried my best. I was thinking about playing him with my hands behind my back to see if that worked, probably would've still got a foul call."

We live in a world where a college baseball coach will sell access to talks from college baseball coaches (where they will preach the virtues of selflessness) for the cost of like $150mnth

I'd like to be finished with the part of my life where I Have to watch Jalen Hurts play QB for my football team.
Hes not good at it. Stop pretending. Thanks for the super bowl, but noone who is actually good can look this bad consistently.

I'm not sure any rule change in MLB has had a more pronounced effect than the 3 batter minimum.
It's just so few guys even in a big league Bullpen that you look at as a three out reliever that has a favorable matchup in a tight game.

Delacruz getting out of the way of a HBP in a must reach situation, and immediately hitting into a DP is the reason why he's not a big league regular.

Well he went 18 and is going for 21
Luzardo gets us 15 and donny decides to devote resources to chasing this win.
I get it, it's tied. But, if Sale hands this ball to Soriano you aren't winning.
This is the danger zone, this goes wrong you get swept

Got to chase Sale before he gets 18 outs
Luzardo/Painter/Shugart get through 20 outs and a LHP gets Olson/ozzie/ in a big spot
Then you decide to Punt (Jose) or fire more coal into the furnace (Alex, big Jon)
You can win this game, but there's a really wrong way to lose it too

If you judged today's swings versus the plane of the pitch, versus the swings of the 80s versus the same, you would find there is a stronger correlation to today's than there used to be. The reason they didnt strike out as much is because half the dudes threw 86

Tell you what. We've got pieces. You go 15 halves of pitching scrimmage after working a 4-hour football game as a team, and you manage to have energy, selfless behavior, and good fundamentals through the whole thing.
Its a good ball of clay to start molding.

They are going to lose because edmundo sosa stared at a non HR, then tried to make up for it after the ball caromed off the wall, tripped and didn't make it to third with zero outs.

All of you are missing the nuance required to actually judge this. Most, if not all, of the models suck.
There is nothing MORE granular and singular than the needs of a pitcher from his catcher vs the variables of hitters/temp/umpire/feel/context/ ect.

Inspired by this I want to theoretically can teams improves the performance by simply change how glove position being set up in the first place? I found it's ~ 1 win over average per season and somewhat consistent to next season
