Great coaches make it about the players! Simple and I truly hope coaches take something from his example. Show up and do the right things. This is so great to see Pat win like this.

Interesting observation. The Brewers (almost without exception), seemed to stay within the team colors for all their added gear.
There’s a reason it’s called a UNIFORM. In baseball, your cleats, batting gloves, sliding mitts, elbow guards, and sleeves should reflect your TEAM ion to yourself.
The name on the front matters more than the name on the back.
Look like a team. Play like a team. Win as a team.
WE over ME.

What is the Job of a First Base Coach?
The role of a First Base Coach goes far beyond standing in the coaching box and telling runners when to go back to the bag.

The best don’t treat BP like a Home Run Derby.
Sharpen your sword.
Sharpen your sword.
Jonathan Aranda BP is fascinating to watch. All feels, really light swings and very quiet with his lower half.
Of course, he still flicked some pull side well over the right field wall, but focus seemed to be on driving it where it’s pitched and working the whole field.

Absolute competitor and WINNER. Wants to be challenged, wants to be coached, and is an unbelievable teammate. In a world where the game can become about “me,” he’s always about the TEAM.
Look at his Twitter header photo—it says it all! All he cares about is WINNING!

Championship cultures aren’t built on Friday nights under the lights. They are built on Tuesday afternoons when your players are sprinting out routine ground balls in empty ballparks.

We’re blessed at @HobanBaseball to have so many players in our program participate in our offseason training!

If your HS coach(es) put on organized workouts in the offseason and you are not playing another sport…. I encourage you to take advantage of this quality FREE training/practice.
You don’t have to pay for training for it to be of value. If you take lessons, plan those for a time when you are not at your HS training. Then you get a double bonus. It should not be one or the other. Of course I’m talking about players who love the game and are hungry to get better.
*** Footnote: not everyone is blessed to have quality coaches who give up their time in the off season to help other. But if you do, take advantage of it and thank them.

The Brewers had the highest ground-ball rate in MLB this season. The pulled the ball less often than anyone, too. Only one team hit fewer homers.
They are the exact opposite of how modern baseball is supposed to work. They also are a scoring machine.

Check out the Yankees bunt defense compared to the Dodgers.
Jazz Chisholm and Kiké Hernandez start in the exact same spot.
Yet when Kiké spots the bunt, he sprints to first to get the out while Jazz just wanders around aimlessly and the runner reaches.
Losing on the margins.

Ryan Day with a great explanation of how responsibility works between players and coaches.
Coaches are 100% responsible for training players well enough to play.
Players are 100% responsible for meeting the standard.
Responsibility is not 50/50. Each owns 100%.
