Thank you to the @DCPCA for this recognition! It’s been a challenging year in public health, but through partnership and collaboration we’ve been to maintain access to care for thousands of DC residents. Look forward to continuing our work together!

Expanding grocery access for our District residents will not only allow low food access areas to get high quality groceries but also help make grocery delivery more affordable for our neighbors.

I am proud of the collaboration of @_DCHealth , @MarthasTableorg , @ymcadc , and needle on chronic health conditions in DC. And as Chair for the Committee on Health, I am proud of the initially funded allocation in FY25 for the Grocery Access Pilot, the continued funding in FY26 to expand the pilot; and expand the pilot funding in FY27 through a transfer from Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau.

I’m thrilled at the success of the Grocery Access Pilot and look forward to its continuation. 🥳

Today, I introduced legislation to address the dental hygienist shortage in the District.

The Dental Hygienist Amendment Act of 2026 would expand access to critical preventative oral health care by creating a pathway for internationally educated dentists already living in our icensed dental hygienists here in DC.

The District of Columbia sits on the ancestral lands of the Anacostans (also known as the Nacotchtank), and the neighboring Piscataway and Pamunkey peoples.

The area we think of today as metro DC, was rich in natural resources that supported the local indigenous people living Potomac Rivers provided a variety of fish and the surrounding wilderness provided produce and wild game.

These communities stood for thousands of years where they were sustained by and lived in balance with the environment.

Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we offer recognition and respect to the people who once lived on these lands.

We honor the Anacostans , the Piscataway and the Pamunkey peoples.

To continue exploring the history of our indigenous people you can use this interactive map to see who once lived where you are now: native-land.ca
