Congrats to all authors that contributed chapters to our book on the major complication of pelvic surgery in female pts. Doody's Review provided it with a rare 5 Star review. Useful to all pelvic surgeons.

Lymphocele cited as major reason in guidelines to avoid LND in prostate cancer. Here we show most almost all lymphoceles (42/43) come from Cloquet's node, which should not be removed during LND. auajournals.org/doi/10.1097/JU…

Congratulations to Mary-Ellen Taplin, MD, recipient of the 2026 PCF Women in Science Lifetime Achievement Award.

She asked in 1995 why prostate cancer stops responding to hormone therapy, then spent decades turning that answer into standard care.

Thank you to @BladderCancerUS for this support!

The UCSF K12 from the NCI went unfunded in 2025 with several junior faculty already in the program. Foundations like BCAN make all the difference in steadying the waters in an uncertain federal funding landscape.
“This support will allow me to sustain the momentum of my laboratory, continue pursuing promising new discoveries, and bridge a critical funding gap.”

Congratulations to 2026 BCAN Continuity Grant recipient @CChuMD!

🚨 Retroperitoneal fibrosis 🚨

@TheLancet, worth a read by urologist

📌 Ureteral encasement w/ obstructive uropathy in 60-70% of cases.
📌Many pts present w/ hydronephrosis
📌 Serum IgG4 is normal in 60 to 70% of idiopathic cases
📌 Occupational asbestos + smoking = risk nts:
✅ Stent or nephrostomy for moderate to severe obstruction, then immunosuppression.
✅ Ureterolysis is rescue therapy for intractable obstruction, not first line
✅ Pull urologic hardware once the fibrosis shrinks
⚠️~42% relapse, median 14 months. 20 to 50% develop CKD
⚠️ Atypical location, bulky mass, or lateral ureteral displacement should trigger biopsy

🎯 RPF is a systemic fibro-inflammatory disease
-Urology job is drainage & getting pts to medical therapy

Just released in @NatRevUrol : Integrating clinically actionable biomarkers into bladder cancer care : recommendations from the International Bladder Cancer Group @IBCG_BladderCA

During our deliberations, one theme was clear: biomarkers don't improve care simply because they're rove care when they're validated, reproducible, and actually change clinical decisions 🧵

9/ This is true across fields.

In oncology, fellowship cannot only mean doing the index operation. It has to mean multidisciplinary cancer management, salvage surgery, collaboration with other specialites, and trials.

In recon, it is redo surgery, radiated fields, and anatomy that isn't in the textbook.

13/ So yes, fellowship interest is changing. Good.

The old question was: “Should I do a fellowship or join a subspecialty?”

The better question is: “What will this fellowship make me?”

A better surgeon.
A better thinker.
A better collaborator.
A better job candidate.
A urologist with a name attached to a problem others know to send.
