Ryan Tedder reveals Tate McRae’s hit “Housewife” marks the end of her early-2000s-inspired sound ahead of a sonic shift on her forthcoming album:
“I’m a big believer in if once you start a trend, you also should be the one that ends it. And so, with ‘Housewife’, we said, ‘OK, if ing that smacks remotely of early 2000s, this has to be kind of it. Then we move it.’” #TM4

Ryan Tedder on how Tate McRae’s hit song “Housewife” was created:
“I hear Tate say as a joke, ‘Oh my god, I’m so stressful. Some days, I literally just want to make a lot of money and just be my own housewife.’ I think she had just broken up with somebody, or maybe she was dy. Most of the time, my job is to listen to the artist, wait for the magic moment. I’m writing down what they say constantly. They think I’m texting somebody. I’m not […] And she says it as a joke, and Julia starts dying laughing. Then they keep talking, and I go, ‘Stop.’ I turn around and go, ‘What did you say?’ Julia goes, ‘You said, “Sometimes, I just want to make a lot of money, be my own housewife.”’ I go, ‘That’s the song.’”
