Nick Saban says he had lived his entire life like he was in a hurry and didn’t even realize it

“When I retired, and I don’t know if I ever shared this with anybody, I spent 50 years of my life being in a hurry and didn’t know it.”

“I retired and the cars are backed up on the to one lane. In the old days, I would be the guy that passed all the cars up and cut in at the last minute in front of somebody.”

“I sat there with Miss Terry in the car. She says, ‘You mean you’re not going to pass everybody illegally and cut in?’ I said, ‘We’re not in a hurry.’”

“But it’s the first time when I retired that I realized that I wasn’t in a hurry. And I was in a hurry for 50 years and didn’t know it.”

“I was always hurrying up to the next thing. Solve the next problem, go to the next thing. And you talk about relieving stress, that relieves stress better than anything. I just noticed it in that circumstance. Not cutting into traffic and waiting my turn.”

@The_Noah_Sharp @jucoroute @KCC_BSB The number of people who don’t understand JUCO ball in Iowa is remarkable. Both are great programs. Some of those Kirkwood kids will end up at Iowa. The rest will end up at other D1 schools. My guess is wind was blowing out hard yesterday. The game isn’t played on paper.

Tom Burnett grew up in Bloomington, was the quarterback at Bloomington Jefferson, graduated from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota, and on the morning of September 11 he was a passenger on Flight 93.

He called his wife Deena four times from that plane. She told n the last call, he told her that he and the other passengers had decided to take the plane back. His final words to her were “Don’t worry, we’re going to do something.” They did. Flight 93 never reached Washington. Tom was among the nearly 3,000 people killed twenty-five years ago today.

I was activated as a U.S. Marine shortly after 9/11 alongside thousands of young men and women who didn’t look like me, pray like me, or come from where I came from, and every one of us had sworn the same oath: to support and defend the Constitution. Because the attacks were never only about buildings. They were an attack on America itself, and on the idea that defines it: that all of us are created equal and free, that we govern ourselves, and that our rights can’t be taken away.

That idea held on a field in Pennsylvania. It is still standing today.

We remember the fallen. And we honor Tom Burnett the way I hope he’d recognize: by continuing the fight.
