HONORED TO RECEIVE THE ENDORSEMENT OF OFFICER JIM MULLEN

Some endorsements rest on shared principles. Others carry the weight of extraordinary sacrifice, courage, and personal experience. I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of my friend and former Chicago Police r Illinois Attorney General.

On October 16, 1996, Jim responded to a call involving a gunman firing at passing CTA “L” trains. While protecting the people of Chicago, Jim was shot in the face. The bullet damaged his spine, leaving him a ventilator-dependent quadriplegic. His life changed in an instant, but his commitment to serving others never wavered.

Rather than letting that tragedy define him, Jim showed extraordinary determination, becoming a television reporter and an advocate for people living with disabilities.

Jim understands the realities of public safety in a way few people ever will. He wore the uniform, answered the call of duty, and paid an unimaginable price while protecting others. His sacrifice, perseverance, and continued dedication to helping people command my deepest respect.

When I speak about standing with law enforcement, protecting crime victims, and holding violent offenders accountable, I am speaking about people like Jim Mullen. I am speaking about the officers who put their lives on the line every day and the families whose lives can be forever changed by a single act of violence.

As Illinois Attorney General, I will never lose sight of those sacrifices. I believe our justice system must put victims first, support the men and women who protect our communities, and ensure accountability under the law.

Jim's endorsement is especially meaningful because of our friendship and my tremendous admiration for his courage. His support reinforces why I am running: to be the People's Attorney General, not the insiders' Attorney General.

I had the pleasure of attending last night's Chicago Committee's Heroes Tribute Dinner, benefiting the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and its Scholarship Program for the Children of the Severely Injured. This important initiative provides financial assistance to students on and career training beyond high school.

It was especially meaningful to see several scholarship recipient families in attendance. I also enjoyed meeting legendary broadcaster Bill Kurtis, who served as the evening's Master of Ceremonies.

Special recognition to Dinner Chairs John Holmes and Peter Pace, along with Military Guest of Honor Sergeant Major Michael Barrett, USMC.

Our military families have sacrificed so much for our nation. Supporting their children's education is one meaningful way we can honor that service and invest in their futures.
