The UIL approved a mandated 35-second shot clock for basketball starting in 2028-29 school year for 6A and 5A, with other classes to adopt it in following years. 6A and 5A schools would have the option to use it in the 2027-28 school year.

Everything starts with belief.

Birdville High School boys basketball head coach Anthony Holman joined us at RevoStudios for Coaches Corner to discuss the four principles driving the Hawks’ program: belief, commitment, competition and service.

Reflecting on Birdville’s state n shared how his players’ belief helped build a culture of trust, confidence and commitment to the process.

He also emphasized “competitive resilience,” the ability to push through adversity, stay focused and compete when things get tough.

Beyond basketball, Holman’s mission is to develop great young men who put others first, serve their communities and carry those values beyond the court.

Birdville High School head basketball coach Anthony Holman is building an offense centered around unselfishness, ball movement and getting everyone involved.

For Holman, one of the most exciting aspects of this Hawks squad is its willingness to share the basketball. Rather than o create every opportunity, Birdville emphasizes keeping the ball moving, trusting teammates and making the extra pass.

“They move the ball well. They play very selflessly. It’s a fun style of basketball to coach, and it’s a fun style of basketball to watch.”

That team-first approach has created an offensive identity where everyone has an opportunity to contribute. Holman wants his players to enjoy creating opportunities for one another, knowing that the best basketball comes when all five players are connected.

Replying to @Revocruit
@Revocruit @BirdvilleHoops @4PlayingTime I hear they are heavily invested in their feeder middle school programs as well. That’s such an underrated thing about development.

Honor the standard… HOLD THE STANDARD!
Birdville High School head coach Anthony Holman knows the success his program has experienced didn’t happen overnight, and he wants the next generation of players to understand exactly what it took to get there.

After back-to-back state tournament appearances, Holman is players to follow the example set by those who came before them. From early mornings in the gym to thousands of repetitions throughout the summer, the standard at Birdville has been established through consistent work and dedication.

“These guys set the standard, and you saw what it takes.”

For Holman, wearing the Birdville jersey comes with expectations. The foundation has already been laid, but continuing that success means embracing the same commitment and daily habits that helped previous players earn opportunities at the Division I level.

“It doesn’t just happen just because you show up and wear a Birdville on your shirt. These guys worked for it, and you got to do the same thing.”
