Utah's water office has a filing for 1,712 acre-feet. What O'Leary Digital bought to get it is a ranch.
On October 15 its Utah DC Sub I filed change application a55167, moving 1,712 acre-feet a year off irrigation on Bar H Ranch in Hansel Valley onto a data center and 7.5 million gallons of a century-old farm right carried by that ground, not new water.
The ground came with it. About 11,000 acres are under purchase agreement at Bar H, a spread of 16,000. The plan opened at 40,000 acres and was cut to 20,000.
Eleven data center clusters and fifteen 500 megawatt gas plants sit behind it. Engineers project 1,215 acre-feet diverted, 229 returned, about 987 a year out of the basin, less than the hay ground consumed.
Grow the Flow's Ben Abbott says a plant that size on that water would run ten to a hundred times leaner than anything built. "There is not an example anywhere on the planet."
O'Leary Digital CEO Paul Palandjian says the loop is closed and recovers 90 percent. Nearly 200 protests were filed by October 20.
Permanent change, the filing says. The irrigation use ends, the valley keeps the hay ground, and the county gets the buildings. @YanasaTV

Nobody asks the ranch before a water right changes hands.
The outfit still controls whether the cow settles. LaRue ran 34 head on the tubs at 6,500 feet, 100 percent bred. Ordinary mineral feed left 30 percent open.
That settle rate is what BetterFedFoods.com is for.

Eight billion dollars in diesel relief was announced on October 19. The formula behind it is built on planted acres, so a cow calf outfit with no crop ground computes to zero.
The program is Harvest Fuel Relief. It is Commodity Credit Corporation money, administered by the Farm /t.co/abIMfCK0yJ
Payment is one uniform formula for modeled 2026 crop year losses, built from FSA reported planted acres, Economic Research Service cost of production, and WASDE yields and prices. Title I row crops first, rates promised in November.
The release names specialty crop growers and fishermen as producers with no Title I crop, and tells them to send fuel cost data to HarvestFuel@usda.gov. Senator Dan Sullivan announced Alaska fishermen were eligible after coordination with the department.
Cattle are not named in the terms. There is no per head lane in the formula, and pasture has no planted acre to report.
A feedlot buys diesel by the gallon for trucks, tractors, feed wagons and well pumps. None of that appears in the formula.
For everyone outside Title I the methodology comes later, so no rate has been set for the operation running cattle on ground it never plants.

The check is written against planted acres. What the ranch raises still has to pay.
The Omega-6:3 ratio in beef has run near 20:1. NBO3 reports it under 3:1 on the tubs.

Agriculture Secretary @SecRollins said on a press call Thursday that "big announcements" are coming, "including the shifting of some of the closed Tyson plants and others."
She named no plants and gave no dates. @RuralRadioNet carried the call.
@TysonFoods closed its Lexington, Nebraska plant on January 20 and cut more than 3,200 jobs. A University of Nebraska analysis put the annual cost to the state at $3.28 billion.
She also said beef processing would "trend back toward less consolidation and more competition."

In 1864 José Andrés Sepúlveda sold 48,803 acres of the California coastal plain for $18,000. Thirty-six cents an acre.
Los Angeles County ran about 70,000 head of cattle. Two rainless winters killed more than seven in ten of them, and the families who counted their wealth in The buyers were a partnership of three: James Irvine, who sold goods to gold miners in San Francisco, Benjamin Flint, Thomas Flint, and Llewellyn Bixby, sheep and cattlemen out of the north.
Two years later they took Rancho Lomas de Santiago, 47,226 acres, for $7,000. Fifteen cents an acre. With part of a third grant the holding reached about 108,000 acres, nearly a fifth of Orange County.
In 1876 Irvine bought his partners out for $150,000 and held all of it.
Every step was legal and quiet. The rain failed, and the ground moved from families who had held that plain for generations to men who watched the drought from a counting house on San Francisco Bay.
That ground is the city of Irvine. The Irvine Company, private, no public shares, holds about 93,000 acres of Orange County under one owner. Joan Irvine Smith, the founder's granddaughter, was bought out in 1990.

🚨 WHO WANTS TO NAME THE NEW BULL CALF
Name him and your Thanksgiving turkey is covered.
He came late last night in the first real rain we've had in a while. White calf, up on his feet and moving around the pasture already, and mama is keeping a close eye on him. Another p your pick in the replies and I'll pick the winner Friday.

Mexico's cattle federation closed its convention in Saltillo on October 20 with a warning about an American country-of-origin label.
Its president, Homero García de la Llata, called it a label that "would discriminate against Mexican calves and beef."
He said CNOG has worked to ican cattle.
In the same speech he asked his own government for no duty-free beef import quotas in 2027, citing 1.7 million head left unexported and a 500,000-ton beef surplus.
So Mexico wants protection from imported beef at home while working to keep an American label off the calves it ships north.
The Senate farm bill carries mandatory country-of-origin labeling. The House bill does not.
Congress returns November 9.
Congress repealed beef COOL once before, in December 2015, after WTO rulings went against it for Canada and Mexico.

Richard Clary runs his family's ranch outside Olive, Montana, in Powder River County. He moved the operation down from North Dakota in 2012 and bought the place. His son Marshall came back in 2020 to take it over.
Shipping day starts at daylight. Two bunches of cattle. Big pulled, light steers penned separate, then the second bunch through the same sort.
A portable scale gets set in the corral. A Montana Department of Livestock brand inspector clears every animal on the spot. Weights written down, truck loaded, cattle gone.
Montana charges one dollar a head for that inspection. It is required before ownership changes and the seller has to call for it. The state does the legal work at the corral.
The steers sold on Superior Livestock's Country Page, where the seller posts his own asking price instead of taking what a ring hands him. Clary has sold to the same buyer five straight years.
A sale barn takes 2 to 4 percent of the gross, plus yardage.
Clary said the gain is the rest of the day: "without trucking them cattle somewhere and sitting at a sale barn and waiting."
The rest of that day went to weaning heifers on the same ground.

Texas built one door for property tax complaints and then took away the board's authority to open it.
You get a protest form for your own house. You can argue your value is too high. You cannot argue the whole county's values were set to fund a budget.
The board you sit in al Review Board, an administrative body with statutory authority only. Its power over the law is zero.
Plaintiffs in the Denton County case spell out the chain. The state makes the ARB the exclusive forum, strips the ARB of any power to grant constitutional relief, requires you to exhaust it anyway, then uses that exhaustion to close the courthouse.
Federal rights stay recognized on paper and become unenforceable in practice. They describe the result as taxation without representation and without remedy.
As Real Estate Mindset laid out this week, that chain runs under every county roll in the country. The method gets challenged, the challenge gets routed to a panel that can only touch one parcel, and the method survives untouched.
The county sets the number. The board reviews the number. Nobody ever rules on whether the number was legal to build.
I run cattle on land I hold the deed to. After that breakdown, the deed looks a lot like a permission slip.

The Irvine ground paid because a city grew on it. A working ranch gets paid for what the forage does. NBO3 has fed over a million head, Kansas State research behind it, microalgae on soil and in the tub.

Sepúlveda's problem was that land was the only thing he could sell. A ranch that sells its beef direct collects the margin the middleman keeps, so a bad year does not put the acres on the block.
