The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Director General, Maj Gen Hillary Kipkosgey, today joined the Governor of Taita Taveta County, H.E. Dr. Andrew Mwadime, EGH, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Finance and Planning at Taita Taveta University (TTU), Prof. fficial launch of the Earth Observation Innovation Laboratory (EOIL) at TTU.
The launch marks a significant milestone in expanding access to satellite data, strengthening technical skills and creating opportunities in Kenya’s growing space sector.
The EOIL is an innovation hub that enables students, researchers and industry experts to access geospatial data, digital infrastructure and open-source geospatial tools. It supports the development of innovative geospatial applications to address challenges in agriculture, climate resilience and urban planning, while strengthening Kenya’s data governance capacity.
Conceptualized in 2024 under the European Union-funded Data Governance in Africa Initiative, the project is funded by the European Union and France, implemented by Expertise France in partnership with the Kenya Space Agency, and hosted by Taita Taveta University and the University of Nairobi.
Through the laboratory, students, innovators, startups and institutions will benefit from access to geospatial data, technical training, certification, prototyping facilities, networking opportunities and expert support.
The EOIL represents more than access to technology; it is a platform for unlocking potential, advancing research, fostering innovation, and transforming satellite data into practical solutions.
KSA remains committed to promoting innovation and developing the necessary infrastructure to support research and innovation for sustainable national development. We sincerely thank all our partners whose collaboration, commitment, and support have made this milestone possible.

it's funny how close to every week we get new usecases for @minisendapp thanks to our users.
met this client during Africa Blockchain Festival,they were doing OTC and needed a way to handle their internal stablecoin treasuries.
pitched minisend merchant to them and they said "let's chat next week"
it's been barely 48hrs these guys have moved close to 5k usd
we have now built an internal OTC desk channel within the portal where they can receive and send payouts to their customers globally using stablecoins.
beta access now open to anyone curious to try it out.

Mashujaa Day: What Does It Take to Keep Freedom Alive?
In 2009, I first walked past the Kengeleni Bell near Kongowea Market in Mombasa, while exploring ideas that would become Eco-Pesa.
The bell marks the history of Frere Town, built by Africans liberated from slavery. In 1889, £3,500 was paid to those relinquishing claims over 1,442 people. That's roughly £584,000 in today's British purchasing power, or **KSh 100 million**.
The money went to former enslavers, not the people rebuilding their lives. Generations later, much of Frere Town's original land was transferred to other interests.
Today, the surrounding economy is full of wealth: farmers, fishers, traders, carpenters, transporters, caregivers and countless other skilled people.
What if we brought together KSh 100 million in real commitments to deliver local goods and services?
That's the idea behind the Frere Freedom Market, connecting locally stewarded markets where people can exchange food, skills, services and productive commitments.
My experiences around Kongowea and working with Tendai Lewa Mtana and communities practicing Chikola and Dhome have given me enormous confidence in what people can accomplish together.
Thank you, Tendai, for helping us recognize and steward the wealth already among us.
This Mashujaa Day, let's honor those who fought for freedom by strengthening our capacity to sustain it.
