We embrace innovation at Baptist Health because it helps us provide our patients with the best possible care. Our Center for Professional Excellence recently welcomed two new advanced simulation manikins named Perry and Parker to the Life Support Center to help elevate our kins have realistic anatomy and responsive physiology, creating an authentic experience that mirrors real-life patient care. They also provide real-time feedback and data on performance and interventions to help our team recognize what they’re doing well and where they can improve. Ultimately, Perry and Parker enable our team members to gain the confidence and skills necessary to perform in any scenario. 💙
These lifelike manikins let us perform simulations that ensure our team is fully prepared to respond when real-world emergencies arise.
Given that Perry and Parker are so realistic, we thought they needed a backstory, but we need your help! Tell us what you think Perry and Parker's story is in the comments!
We'll give you a head start:
Perry: The strong, silent type who handles procedures without a sound. Perry believes in basic decency, that family is the most important thing and that he's honored to help our team.
Parker: A jokester with a great sense of humor, Parker keeps us in stitches while we stitch him up. He takes his responsibilities seriously though, and has helped our team on many occasions.
Your turn! 💙

🏥 ➡️ 🏠 Hospital-level care, right where you feel most at home.
Baptist Health is expanding its Baptist Hospital at Home program to Baptist Medical Center South, allowing more eligible adult patients to receive hospital-level care from the comfort of their own homes.
Since x in February, the program has helped more than 300 patients continue their care at home with support from a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, community paramedics and other care professionals - with 24/7 clinical oversight and services such as labs, IV medications, imaging, oxygen and therapy available when needed.
For 89-year-old Janice Carrier, the program meant being able to finish her treatment for an infection at home after eight days in the hospital.
💬 “Going home was a dream. I was still not myself from being on antibiotics, but to be at home with familiar surroundings just made me feel better,” shared Janice.
With the expansion to #BaptistSouth, more patients may have the chance to focus on healing in a familiar place, surrounded by the people they love, while receiving trusted Baptist Health care. 💙

🌸 Some people have a way of making everyone around them feel a little less alone. 🌸
We’re proud to recognize Penny, Adult Pharmacy team member and LOTUS Award nominee, for the extraordinary compassion and kindness she shows her colleagues every day.
Penny’s professional , but it’s her genuine care for the people around her that truly makes her stand out. When teammates face difficult seasons - from illness and loss to personal or financial challenges - Penny is there to offer exactly the kind of support they need.
Whether she’s helping a coworker get to their car, visiting them in the hospital, covering a shift, reaching out to a grieving family member or simply being there to listen, Penny consistently finds ways to make a difference.
Her generosity seems to know no bounds, and when she’s thanked for all she does, her response is simple: “I believe God put me here for this.”
Penny, thank you for being a source of strength, comfort and kindness for your team. Your compassion makes a difference in ways that extend far beyond your role.

🚫🦟 Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance - they can spread serious illnesses.
With recent rain contributing to increased mosquito activity across Florida, it’s important to know the signs and take steps to protect yourself and your family from mosquito-borne illnesses like West ever.
Dr. Shalika Katugaha, system director of Infectious Diseases for Baptist Health, recently spoke with @wjxt4 about what Duval County residents should look out for to protect themselves and their families from mosquito-borne illnesses:
🤒 West Nile virus symptoms can include fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, weakness and rash. Severe symptoms such as confusion, seizures or severe weakness require immediate medical attention.
🤕 Dengue fever symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, and intense muscle, bone and joint pain. Severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting or unusual bleeding can be warning signs of a more serious infection.
PROTECTION IS PREVENTION: Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants when possible, and take extra precautions during times of increased mosquito activity. West Nile mosquitoes are most active around dawn and dusk, while dengue-carrying mosquitoes can be active during the day.
When spending time outdoors, remember: Repel. Cover. Protect. 🦟🚫

⚽ 💪 From PE class to physical therapy, Virginia, PTA (physical therapy assistant) spent her career teaching movement to kids as a PE (physical education) teacher. Now, she’s helping adults move, recover and get back to doing what they love!
But what’s the biggest difference nd treating adults? 🤔 Virginia shared that while kids are naturally eager to play and stay active, helping adults get moving in physical therapy sometimes means finding creative ways to make exercise fun and engaging, too!
These days, Virginia uses that same energy to motivate adults to keep moving, build strength and reach their goals. 👟

Loraya dreamed of a career in medicine since elementary school, but it was our Tipping the Scale program that helped her discover her true calling in nursing! 💙
Tipping the Scale: Connecting Students to Careers is Baptist Health's youth and mentoring program designed to nnect high school students with careers in health care. Loraya says the Tipping the Scale program has made an incredible impact on her life.
“This program made me into who I am,” she says. “I’m able to afford college through the help of Tipping the Scale. I currently have a job because of Tipping the Scale. I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to be in the program, and I’m so glad I had so many mentors guiding me from a child to now a young adult and who I can still rely on.”
One of those mentors was Avalee Delay, our director of development for the Baptist Health Foundation. Avalee knew immediately upon meeting Loraya that she had a bright future ahead of her.
“After meeting Loraya and learning about her goals, strengths and aspirations, I realized that what she needed wasn't someone with all the answers; she needed someone in her corner,” Avalee says. “Mentoring has been incredibly rewarding because you often see potential in the students long before they see it in themselves. Watching Loraya grow, pursue and achieve her goals is a privilege. It reminds me in both my professional and personal life that sometimes the most meaningful and supportive role you can play is believing in someone and helping them to recognize their own potential.”
Loraya was a summer intern for three years through the program at Baptist Medical Center Nassau before joining the emergency department team. She is looking forward to what the future holds, and her immediate goal is to complete her bachelor’s degree in the next two to three years, earn her nursing license, and become a pediatric nurse. 🩺
We expect big things from Loraya, and we’re so #BaptistProud to have helped her take these steps on what promises to be such a fulfilling journey! 💙

Fall means leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping and respiratory illness season has arrived. 🤧 🍂
Mucus is a normal part of the respiratory tract as it keeps airways moist and traps dust and germs, but the lining can become inflamed by viruses or bacteria.
“This the immune system and stimulates the airway cells to produce more mucus,” says Dr. Gredymar Marin, a family physician with Baptist Primary Care at Seven Pines. “The mucus may also become thicker as it collects white blood cells, damaged cells and other debris. Coughing is a protective response that clears germs and debris from the airway.”
Our providers are often asked what different colored mucus means, so we thought we’d provide you with this handy infographic as well as a more thorough explanation through our Health & Wellness blog, Juice: go.baptistjax.com/3WrQ4VL

Technology is changing health care, and we're using it to improve the patient experience.
Baptist Health has again earned Level 10 (the highest possible designation) in both the acute and ambulatory categories of the annual Digital Health Most Wired survey from CHIME - College on Management Executives.
But what does a Level 10 digital health designation actually mean? 👀
It means using technology in meaningful ways to improve care, safety, communication, access and the patient experience, including some of the following initiatives:
📱 My Baptist Chart — access your health information, manage appointments and connect with your care team with an app on your phone
🧭 Baptist Access — find your way around Baptist Health locations with a digital wayfinding app
🔎 Find a Doctor — an advanced search to help find the right provider for you
🤖 New technology & ambient listening — streamline clinical documentation so nurses and providers can spend more time focused on patients and create more personalized care
💻 Connected health records — help care teams access the information they need to support patients
✨ Digital health tools — make care more accessible, personalized and connected
This marks the fourth consecutive year Baptist Health has achieved Level 10 recognition — a distinction earned by just 14 of the 235 organizations that pursued CHIME’s highest designation, placing Baptist Health among the top 6%.
We’re #BaptistProud of the people behind the technology who keep finding new ways to make care better, for every patient, every day. 💙

It's #MedicalAssistantsWeek, and we want to spotlight a very special health care professional – Barbara Mills. Barbara has been a Medical Assistant for nearly 42 years, and she's worked for Baptist Health for 28 of those years!
Barbara doesn't just spend her days at our Baptist office taking vitals and working with providers. She also takes the time to listen to patients, potentially making the difference between a routine visit and a moment when a patient feels truly seen and heard.
Because sometimes, the care patients remember most is how you made them feel. Let’s give it up for Barbara and all the caring team members like her who make a difference one patient at a time. 💙

At Baptist Health, we believe in caring for the mind, body and soul. It’s #SpiritualCareWeek, and we’re celebrating our System Administrator of Spiritual Care, Jeannie Chapman, M.Ed., M.A., CPLC, FT, BCC. 🌿🙏
Since joining Baptist Health in 2016, Jeannie has brought empathy, to patients, their families and our team members. She began her CPE residency here before stepping in as a fill-in chaplain in 2019. Her ability to support those experiencing profound spiritual pain quickly became evident, and within six months, she stepped into the role of System Administrator.
Today, Jeannie oversees our Spiritual Care team, ensuring patients and families have a source of comfort, connection and support during some of life’s most difficult moments. For Jeannie, this work is more than a job. It’s a calling, and her impact is felt throughout Baptist Health. 💚
"I like to tell our team that we're the congregation and our patients are our visitors," she says. "It's such a tremendous honor to be able to make an impact on a grieving person, and our mission is to bring peace, healing and strength, however that looks like."
Jeannie knows that everyone processes difficult news differently. Sometimes, comfort comes through conversation and listening. Other times, simply being present makes all the difference. Her calming presence, empathy and compassion have helped shape the culture of our Spiritual Care team, which serves people of all faiths and denominations. Through her leadership, Jeannie sets an example of caring for others with understanding and dignity, especially when they need it most. 💙
We’re so grateful for Jeannie and her team and the comfort they bring to patients and families every day. Thank you for the difference you make! 🌿🙏
