Living with lower urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate? Learn about the REBOUND clinical study.

We are pleased to be participating in REBOUND, a clinical research study sponsored by ALPFA Medical, Inc.

The study is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the RAIL™ Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) System in men with lower urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as an enlarged prostate.

If you are interested in exploring participation, our study team can explain what is involved and help determine whether you may qualify. Participation is voluntary.

To learn more about the study and to see if you qualify, submit a contact form at DrAustenSlade.com or contact us at 208-321-4790.

For many men, the vasectomy procedure itself is usually the easy part. The bigger challenge is deciding whether to have it done.
What considerations should you consider when making the decision?

1) A vasectomy should be considered permanent contraception.
2) It doesn’t lower testosterone.
3) It generally doesn’t change sexual function.
4) It’s typically a short outpatient procedure.

But it also isn’t something I’d recommend choosing casually because it seems simple.

Before moving forward, confirm three things:
You’re confident you’re done having children.
You understand it isn’t immediately effective. You’ll need contraception until a semen analysis confirms success.
And you understand the risks and alternatives.

Vasectomy vs. Tubal Ligation. Practitioners should help couples understand what each procedure entails. The decision belongs to the couple, but they should make it with full knowledge of what each person is signing up for. #Vasectomy

Be skeptical of anything that promises to “shrink your prostate” naturally. There’s no diet or supplement that’s proven to reduce prostate size. If you’re having symptoms, find out what’s causing them & what treatment options are available. Don’t try to go at it alone.

BPH surgery may be quietly treating something nobody's checking for.

🔹 30.3% had a clinically meaningful (≥20%) testosterone rise post-op
🔹 Rise occurred even with 'normal' baseline T
🔹 Exploratory cutoff ~4.5 ng/mL predicted who benefited (OR 4.35)

Uncontrolled, no generating.

💡 Not enough to change practice. yet relieving the symptoms improving sleep and quality of life can lead to alot of good things.

One of the most common concerns I hear about vasectomy is some version of: "Is this going to affect my sex life?" A vasectomy blocks the tubes that carry sperm. It doesn’t stop you from producing testosterone, so we wouldn’t expect a reduced libido.

A lot of the anxiety around vasectomy comes from putting everything related to reproduction into the same bucket. The anatomy is much more specific than that.

For many men with urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate, medication is where treatment starts. Medication is great, but it’s important to understand what they’re doing because it’s not curing the underlying prostate enlargement.

If you’re going to take a medication for years, ask:
- What is this medication trying to accomplish?
- What side effects should I know about?
- What happens if it stops working well enough?
- What non-medication options are available if my priorities change?

HoLEP joined the high rollers club in Las Vegas.

It was an honor to join Dr. Lesani for the first HoLEP + morcellation cases performed in the Las Vegas area, helping patients in the region gain access to this highly sought after treatment.

Congrats to Dr. Lesani and Summerlin itment to excellence, and thanks @bsc_urology and @richardwolfusa for supporting.

There are a few things I wish more men knew about their prostate before symptoms become a major problem. The first is simple: Pay attention to changes in how you urinate. If you’re waking up more often at night or going more frequently during the day, bring it up with a doctor. Health #Urology

Pulsed field ablation may offer the desired outcomes without the tradeoffs, it’s a technology that has transformed cardiac space, the prostate may be next. The early data has been promising, and I’m excited to see what the evidence teaches us. #BPH #Urology #MedicalTechnology #ALPFA

ALPFA’s GRAIL system uses short electrical pulses designed to target prostate tissue while sparing nearby structures. Why’s that interesting? Every BPH treatment involves tradeoffs: obstruction relief, recovery, bleeding, sexual function & the possibility of retreatment.

There’s a new group of urethral implants emerging for enlarged prostate treatment: Zenflow, Proverum, Butterfly, FloStent. I was among the early urologists to perform Zenflow. The question I’m asking: Can we relieve obstruction while doing less to the patient?

For one patient, minimizing the procedure and recovery may be the priority. Another may care more about maximizing obstruction relief or choosing the most durable option. Neither priority is wrong. That’s why I’m cautious when a new technology is called “better.” Better at what?

The right BPH treatment depends on the anatomy, severity of the problem, evidence behind the treatment, and what the patient considers a successful outcome. More options are a good thing. The challenge is knowing which option makes the most sense for which patient.
