If enough people are interested I can just turn this into a communal robotics hardware space perhaps

Congratulations, and it's about time, and it makes me so glad every time to see rigorous science exterminating the illusions propagated by armchair philosophers and corporate propagandists while vindicating the observations of naturalists.

If you're an early-stage VC investing in hardware, you need to try Factorio

It will dramatically improve your understanding of complex systems

Robbing your competition of sleep and/or focus is the oldest trick in the books. I knew a scientist in a race to publish that would suggest The Wire to his competitors.

i think chips with burnt-in LLMs that run at a very low power will probably result in much of the world around us being unneccesarily intelligent. cheaper to throw that chip and some flash with a readme into an automatic door opener than develop firmware for it.

Cool
A full fruit fly brain has been reconstructed and it is capable of experiencing hunger and simulating grooming behavior.

This is arguably more disorientating than AI consciousness.

something giving me a lot of anxiety is the lack of a fourth macro to become trendy. fats were very popular 10 years ago, protein very popular now, carbs were bigger during the fat-free 90s…but what macro comes next

Many underestimate how well tested quantum field theories are

The measured fine-structure constant and the Standard Model prediction for the electron magnetic moment result in a 1 part in a trillion agreement between theory and experiment, the most precise match in history!

It genuinely concerns me how many mathematicians have told me these week "if it compiles in lean we know it's true". Lean is great, but that's dangerously untrue.

Here are 50 ways to prove 1 == 0 in Lean. That compile. Depending on what version you use.

It's a good question!
So what happens to (software) libraries now?

I had this shower thought that, if humans stop coding, there's no incentive for us to make reusable libraries. Clankers are happy to implement quick sort from scratch in assembly.

Will they ever have enough initiative to say "hey, I'm kinda proud of this, let me clean it up and put it out there to help other clankers save some time in the future"?

Is this the end of reusable software? I can't accept that we've peaked as a society library-wise.
