@shantell_martin The Shantell Sans minisite was built with a lot of care (using SvelteKit ... shout out to @SvelteSociety 🧡).
The site includes demos of the typeface along with an in-depth process essay on the design & making of Shantell Sans:

A huge bonus of the project was getting to work with Anya Danilova (anyadanilova.com), who did a brilliant extension of this typeface for Cyrillic script, adding support for many more languages. You can also read more about Anya’s process on the minisite!

The core of Shantell Sans is a marker-style font with 6 weights, plus Italics. But to capture a bit more of the energy and playfulness of Shantell’s art, we also created variable axes for “Bounce” and “Informality,” and programmed a bit of randomness into these:

The axes are variable, so you can dial things in more precisely than just those 48 styles. Even better, the axes can all be animated, for dynamic text –in videos, web links, animated posters, you name it!

Shantell decided to release Shantell Sans as an open-source project to make it as accessible and widely-available as possible. I’m super excited that from day 1, you can get it on @googlefonts and use it within Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, etc):

While you’re here...
The OpenType “rlig” feature is necessary for the randomization of Shantell Sans (and more importantly, for the shaping of many world scripts).
You can turn it on in Illustrator, but it’s a pain. Please go vote on improved support!
