“I agree with you, but don’t… don’t out me.”

@adamcarolla tells me that people approach him on Hollywood sets to say exactly this. They agree with him privately. They’re afraid of anyone finding out.

Behind the public speeches and moral lectures, he describes three different the true believers. There are the “preening liars” who perform the approved politics to advance their careers. And there are the quiet dissenters who keep their opinions hidden.

Carolla specifically mentions camera guys coming up to him on set. People working inside the industry who feel they cannot openly say what they think.

His explanation is blunt: going liberal in Hollywood can be a “business decision”.

When you’re replaceable, well paid, and dependent on people who expect you to share their worldview, public agreement becomes part of keeping your job. Loudly advertising that agreement might even get you promoted.

He’s particularly brutal about sitcom and late-night writers’ rooms. Walk in wearing a MAGA hat, he says, and “you’re not making it back into that room”.

That’s what makes his account so revealing. The same career pressure can encourage one person to loudly profess a belief and another to conceal theirs.

How many of the celebrities lecturing you are telling you what they believe - and how many are protecting their next pay cheque?

There can be far more behind street begging than most people realise....

Zak Garner-Purkis says some of the familiar faces and signs around London are connected to organised criminal networks, with different groups effectively competing for the most lucrative spots.

What are they afraid would happen if people found out?

Andrew Doyle told me the warning signs aren’t necessarily coming from outside the West.

He argues that civilisations often weaken from within first, and believes the erosion of liberalism and democracy should make us pay attention to what history has shown before.

Mark Booth claims its links to occult traditions are hiding in plain sight, and points to Cleopatra’s Needle in London and its twin in New York as an example.

A hitman told Mariana van Zeller he didn’t kill women or children.

He’d already threatened to kill her.

She had spent months arranging the interview. They met in the middle of the night in Los Angeles.

On the way there, her contact warned that the man could suddenly become proached him, he took a gun from his waistband and showed it to her.

“This is a fucking setup.”

If the police arrived, he told her, she and her crew were dead.

She was now worried that an ordinary police patrol passing by could make him think she’d called them.

She kept the interview moving.

He claimed to have rules about who he would kill.

Mariana asked about the wives and children of the men he killed. What happened to them?

Then she asked the wrong question. She asked about his own family.

“Do you have family?”

“Don’t get my family involved in this, lady.”

“I’m not happy with this line of questions.”

That was when she thought it might be time to end the interview.

She told me it lasted about 20 minutes.

A man who killed other people’s relatives for money didn’t want his own family brought into the conversation.

He said he didn’t kill women or children.

But what did that rule mean to the women and children left behind?

A doctor told Mariana van Zeller he performed surgery for a cartel.

Most of the clients, he said, were Americans.

She also interviewed an American who’d bought a pancreas on the black market.

She asked whether somebody might have been killed for it.

The buyers are one part of paid to kill are another.

One showed her his gun and warned that if the police arrived, she and her crew were dead.

Mariana joined me on Heretics to reveal what she found investigating organ trafficking and murder for hire.
