Forget last week. THIS is Netanyahu's biggest loss ever.

Major confrontation in Israel right now between Gali Baharav-Miara, the Attorney General, and David Zini, the head of the Shin Bet (imagine the "FBI plus" in the US), who is a Netanyahu ally. Zini wants to question the leaders of the Arab-led parties for possible election-tampering, and the Attorney General is saying, "Nope, not without evidence." Possibly the biggest constitutional crisis we've seen in a while. You go, girl!

It's very easy to be a short-term pessimist on Israel/Palestine. But here are two big reasons for longer-term optimism.

First, the daily advances in the integration of the Palestinians of East Jerusalem (95% of whom are not Israeli citizens) into the life of the city as a whole, in terms of where they work, study, shop, and live. Day by day, and despite any number of challenges, Jerusalem is proving that coexistence between Palestinians and Jews is definitely possible.

And second, the way the more than two million Palestinian citizens of Israel have acted since October 7th, culminating in their massive vote on Tuesday. Again, big challenges remain, but the trend is undeniably positive.

So what happens next week? I don't know. But is it possible to see a ray of light in the horizon? Absolutely.

Very important news out of Jerusalem this week. Bear with me. Out of a million people who live in Jerusalem, close to 60% are Jewish and 40% Palestinian. Of the Palestinians, only 5% are Israeli citizens who can vote in national elections, but *all* Palestinians can vote for mayor. Up until now, Palestinians - both citizens and not - tended to boycott all elections, essentially barring themselves from having a strong voice in the city’s government. But this year the dam was broken. The citizens voted on Tuesday in big numbers. If this trend holds in the next municipal election, and those 40% vote, their impact will be massive. Onward!

Let's try something. I am an Israeli Jew, and nothing would make me happier than to see a "national unity" government of Arabs and Jews. If you agree, please like, reply, quote, share... You know what to do. Thank you!

Through their massive vote in yesterday’s election, the Arab/Palestinian citizens of Israel have made it clear that they want to participate fully, as equals, in shaping this country’s future. Not taking this historic opportunity to work with them would be cowardly, racist, and self-defeating.

This. 100 times this. Two peoples, one country, one future.
