As a practicing anesthesiologist and former Surgeon General, I’ve seen trauma -and recovery- up close. We need more programs like Indianapolis’ Hospital-linked Violence Intervention Program.
Nate Boggs was trying to sell a gun. He ended up shot nine times. At the bedside, a trained specialist offered free therapy and a path forward instead of retaliation. Since 2024, the program has reached 125+ victims, delivered 745 sessions, and is now at Riley Children’s. Homicides in Indy are down ~29%!
