URGENT: Sweden will not offer mRNA-based Covid shots to its citizens this winter, only older protein-based jabs - a stunning rejection.
Expect other countries to follow as we learn more about the long-term risks of repeated mRNA/LNP dosing.

Yes, I slipped and wrote "this" winter when I meant "next" winter - at the end of this vaccine cycle in the spring of 2027.
Sloppy mistake, doesn't change the underlying point, the Swedish government is phasing out mRNA jabs.

I usually think psychedelic treatment for depression is a bad idea (and ketamine "therapy" should be outlawed, real medicines don't get snorted off frat boy penises) but I must admit the structure and findings of this new toad venom trial look very good.
Am I missing something?

The chaos in our cells makes the three-body problem look easy. AI may help early-stage drug research, but it will never get near solving human biology.
Oh, and you can't simulate or shorten clinical trials. Time is a variable that can never be modeled away.

Oh, and you can't simulate or shorten clinical trials. Time is a variable that can never be modeled away.
Dreams of AI ending aging and of AI killing everyone through a purely in-silico-designed pandemic both rely on this fallacy.
It's understated here how much we lack ground truth data about what's happening inside of cells, or sensors to get that data. A single cell contains billions of protein molecules, across at least thousands of types, and at least trillions of interactions per second.
Think we solved protein folding? We've made enormous progress predicting static protein structures. But these proteins constantly change their conformation and interact with one another, often in ways we can't observe or model accurately.
Our best sensors capture a miniscule fraction of the activity in a living cell, orders of magnitude short of what's happening.
We actually lack the ability to perceive what's going on that would be required to build such a bottoms up simulation.
Let alone to scale this up to an organism or a global population.
We know we have an expanding universe not because of breakthroughs in theory or computation - but because Edwin Hubble got new data by looking through the Hooker telescope. Possibly the greatest mind, Einstein, was wrong in his model of the universe because he lacked the right instrument to bring him the right data.
That's where we are in biology. Our sensors are still so crude. No amount of pure computation or AI can build a perfect model.
We need an instrument revolution in biology, not just a computational or intelligence revolution. AI can generate hypotheses, but without sufficient ground truth data, we can't know whether our simulations are modeling reality.

"Major jobs wipeout"?
There have been no measurable job losses.
I don't know what's going to happen and I am very worried about the destructive potential of these agents, but the gap between the vibes and the actual data is getting bigger every month.

We obviously haven’t had the major jobs wipeout yet. But you read stuff like this. And you read what economics students themselves are saying about working with AI (ht @odavis_h) and it’s hard not to feel like the seismic shift is on its way.

Go west young models, there's Anthropic bros in them thar hills...
This is long overdue, it has been obvious for a while that really attractive women who want to marry rich should move to SF, the competition is FAR weaker than NY/LA/London, and the money is insane, the odds are good, it’s just that the goods are so very odd

SF’s dating pool was once, as an Egyptian founder put it to us, “drier than the desert in my homeland.”
Now, gorgeous women are flocking to the city.
Why? As AI gets cheaper to build, companies flush with venture cash are hiring beautiful women to charm investors and clients.
s, gentlemen. As @nicolewizman1 writes: paying hotties 6 figures to get drunk with your business prospects feels like a pretty good sign we’re in a bubble. 👇

For 10 years, Dems vastly outspent Republicans, and legacy reporters shyly looked away, money didn't count, foreign trolls were what counted.
Now the GOP has cash again and we get hourly spending updates. (Ironically, money won't matter now either, the orange undertow is real.)
