STATEMENT FROM JACK CAMPBELL

My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days. It means more to us than words can express.

I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time. I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.

My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.

I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field. I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I also can’t say enough about the incredible care I’ve received from the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions medical staff. They’ve been amazing to me and my family throughout this process, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done.

To my teammates, coaches, and everyone in the Lions organization, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you. This team is a family to me, and the way everyone has been there for me means everything. I’m proud to be a Detroit Lion and couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.

One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge.

Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers. We feel the love, and I can’t thank everyone enough.

God is good. My faith is strong.

The 2026 ACC/AHA/Multisociety Guideline on the Management of Dyslipidemia names South Asian ancestry and elevated Lp(a) levels as risk-enhancing considerations that should prompt closer scrutiny rather than reflexive statin initiation.

International Day for Interventional Cardiology: the first coronary #angioplasty

On 16 September 1977, Andreas Grüntzig & his team made history, and changed the lives of millions of patients forever.

Standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before him, this trano an entirely new field of medicine.

What began nearly five decades ago with coronary angioplasty has grown into the broad field of interventional cardiology, transforming cardiovascular care through research, innovation and technological progress.

As the field has evolved, so has the need to learn from experience, share knowledge and shape what comes next. Join us in 2027 at #EuroPCR to mark this landmark moment!

Thoughtful approach to CAC testing by @khurramn1. Test isn’t for all, but useful in the right scenarios. A good clinician has to work with patient to see if appropriate at all, or if the plan of lifestyle changes and potentially Rx can lower long term risk without. #ArtOfMedicine
This is my 10 point conversations, I tend to have with any patient who might have had a predetermined mindset based on social media, CHATGPT or influencers.

1. Based on your age/gender and risk, you are already a candidate for statins, if you choose CAC, there is a 40-50% e #PowerOfZero and likely risk below threshold of why suggested statins, allowing you flexible decisions.
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

2. There is no other good tests that will give you the same information about derisking to guide you optimal information to derisk
ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.11…

3. If decide to make decisions based on CAC vs current risk scores, likely will result in better adherence as seen in the yet to be published CorCal, CAUGHT CAD RCT’s as well accumulation of retrospective literature sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

4. Likely better LDL and risk factors control (EISNER and Caught CAD)
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

5. In a shorter term, CAC guided decisions will likely reduce the risk of plaque progression based on CAUGHT CAD
jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

6. Thankfully if we can keep the price $150 or less or impact your disutility of taking pills it is even cost effective from a societal perspective
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

7. In a clinical trial those randomized to decision based on CAC vs not CAC, we haven’t seen increased risk of extra stress tests, caths or stenting/bypass (EISNER)
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

8. While to date there is no data showing CAC guided decision will reduce the risk of CVD clinical events in a short term period, the studies have shown a) there is no increased risk (harm) of MACE (CorCal), b) prior non randomized studies have suggested no better outcomes with statin use, suggesting no harm if you decide to have flexible goals
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

9. CAC is not one time test, if zero and don't go on treatment repeat in 3-7 yrs based on baseline risk estimate to guide if need to change the decision course
jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

10. Now based on studies, CAC beyond guiding you whether you need statin or not, can help as a dosing strategy (higher risk, higher intensity) now acknowledged also by cholesterol management guidelines

In view of all the Lp(a) interest, I thought it is a good timed to again explain and make less confusing Lp(a) and LDL metrics using my graphics. There is tremendous misuse of various particle metrics. Once again - LDL refers to a specific lipoprotein - THERE IS NO LAB TEST e graphic to study the subtleties. @nationallipid @foundationofnla @society_eas @ASPCardio @escardio @atherosociety @TheEndoSociety @FamilyHeartFdn @fhpatienteurope #cholesterol

Lp(a)HORIZON missed its primary endpoint.

Pelacarsen vs placebo. 8,323 pts, established CVD, Lp(a) ≥70 mg/dL. 4-pt MACE: CV death, non-fatal MI, non-fatal stroke, urgent coronary revascularization.

Lp(a) came down. Events did not.

A thread on what that means to me.

What has NOT changed:
▪ Still a once-in-a-lifetime test (2026 ACC/AHA, 2025 ESC/EAS)

▪ Still marks higher absolute risk — ~1 in 5 adults, ~1 in 3 with premature ASCVD

▪ Still ~90% genetic, so it’s a family finding

▪ Still a reason not to fully trust a CAC of zero

So the Lp(a) comes back at 180. Tomorrow you still do all of it.

LDL-C and apoB lower, not softer. BP to goal. Weight, activity, diet, tobacco. Screen 1st-degree relatives.

Tonight we may have “lost” a drug. We did not lose a risk factor.
Full data likely at AHA in Nov.
