Heads up, @OpenAI and @AnthropicAI. Rumor reaches my ears that you're doing a stupid thing, and should stop before you damage yourselves.
I hear you've now nerfed your models so that when people try to use them to clean the spamware and spyware out of their televisions, you block that.
If you really want Chinese open-weight models and open-source projects like OpenWaldo to eat your lunch, crippling your models so that people paying expensive subscriptions can't use them for completely legitimate purposes is a great way to accomplish this.
If, on the other hand, you'd rather have a volume business, maybe stupid arbitrary restrictions that look like they have the sole purpose of protecting corporate sleazeballs aren't such a good idea.
A word to the wise should be sufficient.

Let me get this straight.
A guy keeps getting weirdly targeted ads on his new Samsung TV.
So he breaks into his own TV to find out why. 1.2M people watch.
42 hours later, OpenAI deactivates his account. Reason: "Cyber Abuse."
His words: "i have never used openai to exploit or nly local reverse engineering"
Same week, people on r/claude say Claude now cuts off reverse-engineering write-ups MID-SENTENCE:
"A safety check stopped my response partway through creating the playbook"
The TV is fine.
The guy who opened it is the problem.

banned for reverse engineering work? that’s wild
oh well, -$500, and a bunch of banked resets) but gained motivation to get 3 more machines and finish my cluster.
i have never used openai to exploit or find vulnerabilities, only local reverse engineering which tripped daybreak.

I’m grateful I found Bitcoin before Covid hit.
It opened my eyes to the friction and permission it takes to run a real estate portfolio.
Sold all my AirBnBs during the plandemic and saved 100% of those proceeds into something unswayed by a company’s policy shift.

Chamath is an idiot.
For one… Satoshi doesn’t have a wallet.
Rather he holds Bitcoin in over 22,000 different addresses (essentially different “wallets” none connected to the other).
Two… SHA-256 isn't what guards anyone’s coins.

Chamath says if AI is aimed at crypto, the obvious target would be "Satoshi's wallet," to "drain the wallet and then go short."
What's your take?

Let’s be real.
Obama dropped more than 26,000 bombs in a single year, 2016 alone, across seven countries: Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.
He expanded the drone war to roughly ten times what Bush ran.
He did more for military industrial complex profits than almost anyone who campaigned on peace.
And Iran was the last name on the Wesley Clark memo: seven countries in five years, Iraq first, Iran last, with the Clean Break doctrine written for Netanyahu setting the table years before.
But here’s the reality underneath it.
War in Iran and Ukraine transfers wealth to bondholders, oil producers and refiners, from everyone who consumes energy and everyone who pays interest on debt.
That’s the financial industrial complex.
The FIC.
The technical industrial complex, the TIC, gets to justify a police and surveillance state at home off the back of the unrest, while field-testing new killing technology abroad.
The US, UK, EU and Israeli stock markets get a stimulus.
Governments become more subordinate to their lobbies through debt.
And the resulting inflation gets socialised onto you.
War is a wealth transfer.
It also drives liquidity into the bond market, which props up the backing of the world’s reserve currency.
In my view, that’s why Obama and Trump both end up at war.
Not left versus right, but the same complexes behind both of them.
Israel is a military industrial complex node, an MIC with a state of its own.
And right now, it’s privatising it: floating its state defence giants, IAI and Rafael, on the stock market at valuations inflated by two years of war.
The MIC is being absorbed into the FIC, cashing in the war premium, live on the Tel Aviv exchange.
War is a racket.
And when the Middle East runs out of road, the MIC needs a new revenue stream.
Which is why the war narratives are now escalating towards Europe, Latin America and a security state across the collective West.
Left and right are tools for real power.
As the power map shifts across BRICS, SCO, ASEAN and GCC, war becomes the tool for negotiating a new world order in a struggle between multiple nodes of power.
In my opinion, it’s not WW3.
It’s a renegotiation.
And burning your attention on culture war and identity politics is exactly how you’re kept from noticing who’s transferring your wealth and raising your prices.
It’s how the system was designed.
You’re just seeing it more clearly now because the MIC is bringing its covert warfare apparatus home and manufacturing the unrest here.
Don’t be a useful idiot in another election cycle of lies that changes none of it. x.com/Acyn/status/21…

Lean muscle mass loss from prolonged fasting
Prolonged fasting is something that has become rather popular in recent years. People see it as a metabolic reset or way to boost autophagy or increase cellular clean-up. And I’m not going to talk about any of that.
What I am going to talk about is muscle during fasting. Roughly 85% of the essential amino acids (EAAs) your body requires to stay alive during fasting come from skeletal muscle tissue, with muscle protein breakdown exceeding synthesis by about 37% (PMID: 7943227).
Over time, without adequate breaks to rebuild the lost muscle, this can lead to substantial amounts of muscle loss. In classic research by Oliver Owen, 21 days of fasting in obese adults resulted in about half of their weight loss coming from lean mass (13 lbs), of which 60% was structural proteins (8 lbs) (PMID: 9665093).
So, this wasn’t just losses due to water, glycogen, or organ shrinkage. It was an actual reduction in skeletal muscle contractile protein content.
I much prefer that people use protein-sparring modified fasts (PSMFs) over traditional fasts. They involve eating sufficient protein and very little of anything else, resulting in extreme calorie deficits that mimic fasting while still supplying the EAAs your body requires.
In one study, obese adults following a PSMF had only 16% of their weight loss come from lean mass, even without any resistance training (PMID: 14618457). Compare that to the 50% in Owen’s complete fasting study, and it’s a no-brainer option.
Anyway, eat your protein or, at the very least, take some EAAs if you are going to fast because I think we can all agree dad bods are not “in.”
