Women live longer than men on average, but those additional years are not always spent in good health. Closing that gap requires research that better accounts for women's biology and addresses the health challenges they face throughout life.

The Women's Health Executive Order into conditions ranging from cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's to osteoporosis, menopause, and aging. It directs the NIH to establish a dedicated Women's Health Division within 90 days and creates a White House Women's Health Task Force to coordinate efforts across federal agencies, including @NIH, @FDA, @CMSGov, and @ARPA_H.

📖 Read the full Executive Order: whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…

At A4LI, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a longer, healthier life. Recognizing aging as a women's health priority is an important part of that goal. Continued investment in research and innovation can help ensure that longer lives also mean more years lived in good health.

Medicine spent generations learning from a system that did not fully account for women.

The Women’s Health Executive Order opens the door to a different kind of progress, one that treats women’s biology as a priority for discovery, investment, and action.

At ARPA-H, we get to hat can finally answer questions medicine has left unresolved.

Women’s health has been sidelined for generations. The mandate to change that is here.

The Women’s Health Executive Order from @flotos and @POTUS directs federal agencies to prioritize fertility, menopause, cardiovascular, bone, metabolic, and brain health.

At ARPA-H, we are rdest problems where medicine has not delivered.

Now we are making big bets that can produce entirely new breakthroughs for women.

Before disease takes hold, there may be a window to stop it.

ARPA-H’s BIOGAMI program is targeting the earliest stages of protein misfolding, and patient advocates are helping shape how that work moves forward.

Earlier intervention starts with listening.

Osteoarthritis affects tens of millions of Americans, and advanced cases can leave patients with few options beyond joint replacement. Current treatments can help manage pain and improve function, but regenerating lost cartilage and bone remains a major challenge.

@ARPA_H's issue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis (NITRO) program is working to change that. Research teams at Duke University, the University of Colorado Boulder, Columbia University, and other institutions are developing experimental approaches ranging from targeted drug delivery to 3D-printed, living joint scaffolds. In animal studies, some approaches have shown promising signs of cartilage regeneration. The goal is to move these innovations toward human trials while developing treatments that could cost substantially less than current standards of care.

At A4LI, we're encouraged to see ARPA-H invest in research that could change how we treat age-related conditions. Maintaining joint health is essential to mobility and independence, and regenerative approaches could one day offer patients options beyond managing symptoms or replacing damaged joints. We'll be following NITRO as these experimental treatments advance toward clinical test.

Metal-and-plastic has been the standard answer damaged joints.

But now ARPA-H’s NITRO program is revolutionizing osteoarthritis care.

A new @wapo feature follows teams at @Columbia, @WashU, @CUBoulder, and @DukeU working to rebuild joints instead of swapping them out.

Diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS can develop over many years, with protein misfolding and clumping contributing to damage in the brain and nervous system. By the time symptoms appear, significant damage may already have occurred. Understanding how these changes portunities to detect and treat disease earlier.

@ARPA_H's new BIOGAMI program is tackling this challenge, investing up to $152 million over four years to understand how proteins become dysfunctional and develop ways to intervene. Six research teams, including those at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, Johns Hopkins, MIT, and UC Berkeley, will combine protein science and computational tools to develop new approaches to early detection and treatment. While the initial focus is neurodegenerative disease, the findings could eventually have applications in cancer, diabetes, and other conditions.

At A4LI, we're encouraged to see ARPA-H invest in understanding the underlying biology of disease. The earlier we can identify and address the processes that contribute to age-related conditions, the more opportunities researchers may have to change how these diseases are treated. We'll continue following BIOGAMI's progress and highlighting the work underway at ARPA-H to advance biomedical innovation.

We are proud to announce our expected participation in SEEDS, an Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (@ARPA_H)-funded research consortium co-led by the @BuckInstitute and @Georgetown, to measure how disease-causing proteins misfold before irreversible damage occurs in cancer.

Many diseases begin with protein dysregulation, misfolding, and aggregation. Today, most treatments arrive only after irreversible damage has occurred. SEEDS aims to predict harmful changes in disease-causing proteins before that point and to use those predictions to develop new ways of detecting, slowing, and treating neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

The four-year consortium has been awarded up to $51.7 million through ARPA-H's BIOGAMI program. Upon completion of contracting, Nautilus would be expected to receive up to $6 million over the course of the program to deploy the Voyager™ Platform to quantify proteoforms of tau, implicated in Alzheimer's disease, and EWS::FLI1, implicated in the pediatric cancer Ewing sarcoma. The work would be anticipated to then extend to a larger set of intrinsically disordered proteins. The resulting data would be expected to be used to train AI models to predict how proteoforms push a protein toward aggregation.

"We believe that the highly differentiated data from the Nautilus Voyager Platform has the potential to unlock a new generation of proteoform-enabled diagnostics and therapeutics." – Parag Mallick, Ph.D., Co-founder and Chief Scientist, Nautilus.
