The signal transduction mechanism in subchondral bone (SB) is critical to the balance between cartilage and SB. The imbalance of signal transduction in SB will promote the occurrence and development of osteoarthritis.

🦴✨ Can You Predict 5-Year Survival After a Hip Fracture? Yes — And It Starts Before the Fall

A recently published study highlights the importance of early functional assessment in older adults recovering from hip fracture.

The findings suggest that understanding a patient’s condition before the fracture and their recovery within the first 30 days post-surgery can provide powerful insight into their 5-year survival chances.

🔍 Key findings:
✅ Pre-fracture functional status and
✅ The 30-day recovery gap post-surgery
are the strongest predictors of long-term survival – more so than age or comorbidities.

👵🏼👴🏽 Over 5 years, survival was 61.9% in women and 38.3% in men.
Nomograms developed in this study may help clinicians provide targeted, timely care to those most at risk.

📊 Functional recovery isn’t just about walking again – it’s about improving quality of life and independence.
