If I were Iran, I'd attack before the U.S. midterms. Send some ballistic missiles to American bases and force Trump into responding at this crucial point for his term in office. Really capitalise on how unpopular this war is in the U.S. at such a sensitive time in American ill seems too focused on trying to appear like the "good guys" or "reasonable" on the international stage. No matter what Iran does, western governments will never see them anywhere near that.

Restraint is a good thing for other reasons, but you should also know when is the right time to use your leverage and play your cards to maximum effect.

Now is the best time for that.

@AMK_Mapping_ And what do you think would happen to Iran after the midterms if they did that?

@AMK_Mapping_, the issue is that Iran already doesn't have much goodwill with the West, so if it were to launch a preliminary attack on the US or Israel, it would face massive condemnation from the West and put China in a difficult position.

So, strategically, it makes sense to wait for an attack before responding, because then Europe won't have a solid reason to pile in on Iran.

@AMK_Mapping_ No. Just the opposite. Iran just have to sit still and watch Trump losing midterms. Any actions from Iran side would help Trump.

@AMK_Mapping_ Iran can do whatever it likes, it will always be portrayed as the source of all evil anyway, and most people in the West will believe that. Only a fraction of people are interested in the truth, so it is foolish to play by the enemies’ rules.

@AMK_Mapping_ It’s inevitable that Iran will be attacked. Not attacking first will be their doom.

@AMK_Mapping_ If they do its a justification for a far worse propaganda against them. Their reputation lies on the fact they're defending themselves

@AMK_Mapping_ I think that would massively backfire as it would galvanized the American public against Iran and would definitely boost Trump's and GOP for the election.

@AMK_Mapping_ Iran is a state, a country, it has a duty towards its citizens first, don't forget that.
If they launch a war unwarranted, its going to create dissent within their own country and jeopardize the state's control and legitimacy which is already shaky, why do that ?

@AMK_Mapping_ no because then that gives Trump ammunition to destroy any infrastructure he wants.

If he destroys power plants and bridges without provocation the general American public think its cruel and out of order.

@AMK_Mapping_ If the Iranians are smart, then they already know that US elections make no difference. The war will continue when either the US is re-armed and ready to escalate or when Iran sees fit to preempt such an escalation. The war won’t end until the U.S. is rendered unable to fight it.

@AMK_Mapping_ Attacking first would be stupid for Iran. Even in pro-Palestine leftist circles, they are still blaming Hamas for october 7, despite Israel carrying out a genocide on livestream for 3 years.

@AMK_Mapping_ The SPIN machine would be engaged immediately, and the sheeple would be immediately programmed to believe that Iran is the aggressor and that Trump was justified in attacking it.

It'd be the biggest boost to Trump & his party for the midterms he could hope for.

@AMK_Mapping_ If Iran wants to preemptively attack, it should do it precisely against Israel because Israel has been doing nightly exercises over Iraq targeted against Iran. If they struck Israel now, they will inflict far more damage on their air force.

@AMK_Mapping_ For what gain? Trump is dead in the polls. He will likely lose both houses. Iran can't get the senate Dems to 60.
Iran's theory of victory includes getting the US out of the region. That means being reactive and NOT overtly threatening US citizens with unprovoked aggression.

@AMK_Mapping_ Midterm results won't change anything re:Iran. It'll be a little more revealing when they have to find 30 Democrats to vote against war powers than if they only needed 15 but so what?
