ADC: N50,000 PAYMENT AN ELECTION GIMMICK, SHOWS TINUBU’S DESPERATION

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the Federal Government’s sudden announcement of a N50,000 monthly cash relief as an election gimmick, a Ahmed Tinubu’s desperation rather than any genuine concern for millions of suffering Nigerians thrown into hardship by the government’s own cruel economic policies.

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, the ADC said the timing of the announcement raises serious questions about the government's motives, claiming that the intervention is only a panic reaction by the Tinubu government to the opposition party’s promise to reduce the cost of living and to make life more affordable for Nigerians if it comes into power in next year’s general election.

"President Tinubu is in full panic mode now. Since the ADC and our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have made affordability and reducing the cost of living the cardinal focus of our campaign, the government has been announcing one desperate intervention or another. In August, they announced a $1 billion so-called ‘Renewed Hope Social Intervention Fund’. But it was only an announcement, nothing more. Then, they announced a 30-day fuel discount, which made no sense. Then they announced the so-called cheaper transportation by October 1 across the states. Again, nothing happened. They have also announced a N70,000 transportation allowance to workers. Now, it is N50,000 for everyone. They are just thrashing around, hoping that something would stick,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC questioned what meaningful relief N50,000 could provide to an average Nigerian household under the prevailing economic conditions.

“What exactly is N50,000 supposed to buy in Tinubu’s Nigeria today? How much food can a family purchase with that amount? How much transport can it cover? And for how long? Petrol prices have risen roughly sevenfold. Food and transportation costs have followed, not to talk of the cost of basic drugs. It is just a desperate and cynical attempt to buy back the goodwill of the people. But it is too little, too late,” the party said.

The ADC said the Tinubu administration had the chance to address the underlying causes of poverty in the country but failed to do so.

“They mismanaged their own economic reforms. Everyone warned them that what they were doing and how they were doing it would only make life difficult for the people. Their only reaction for three years was to tell the people to continue to endure. If they could give N50,000 to vulnerable Nigerians, why didn’t they factor it into reform plans from day one rather than make it an election-season handout? It’s either they didn’t think of it, which makes them dangerously incompetent, or they simply chose to leave the people to suffer and wait for the election to throw them crumbs, which makes them dangerously wicked.”

The ADC also warned that programmes such as the announced intervention fund have been characterised by a lack of accountability, which poses the real risk that this could be another opportunity for diverting public funds. The party recalled a recent report by the Auditor-General that raises questions over similar funds under the Tinubu government.

"What has happened to the findings of the Auditor-General concerning the billions of naira in previous cash transfers that could not be properly accounted for? Have those responsible been held accountable? How can a government that has failed to explain what happened to its previous intervention funds expect Nigerians to trust it with another programme involving billions of naira?"

The party warned that, given the history of social intervention programmes under this administration, the latest initiative raises legitimate concerns about transparency and the possible diversion of public resources for partisan purposes.

"At best, this is an election gimmick designed to deceive Nigerians into believing that a government which has neglected them for more than three years suddenly cares about their welfare. At worst, it could become another scheme to siphon public funds under the convenient cover of poverty alleviation."

The ADC maintained that the solution to Nigeria's cost-of-living crisis lies in restoring purchasing power, reducing the cost of food, energy and transportation.

2027: ADC ACCUSES INEC OF SELF-SABOTAGE
- Says Electoral Body Laying Grounds for Postponement.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately of the 2027 general elections, warning that the Commission's repeated failures undermine its credibility and raise serious suspicions of a calculated scheme to extend the dates for the 2027 general elections.

Despite repeated denials by the Federal Government of a plan to shift election dates, the ADC insists that recent revelations that INEC's voters' register contains AI-generated photographs and fictitious entries, particularly following the Commission's admission that some of its registration officers were responsible for introducing the irregularities, give serious cause for concern.

"If INEC knows that its own officials compromised the voters' register with AI-generated photographs, why has nobody been arrested? Why have these individuals not been handed over for prosecution? What exactly is INEC waiting for?" the party asked.

The ADC also condemned INEC's failure to publish the preliminary voters' register online within the statutory timeframe stipulated by Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the register to be made available for public scrutiny not later than 90 days before the general election.

The party noted that Section 19(5) expressly makes failure by an INEC official to comply with the publication requirement a criminal offence, punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both.

"We are beginning to wonder whether INEC is intentionally trying to make itself incompetent. Because how else do you explain an electoral umpire that had at least three years to prepare for elections, but is suddenly unable or unwilling to produce a credible voters' register in accordance with the strict requirements of the law? At what point should we stop seeing these repeated failures by INEC as sheer incompetence and start to view them as deliberate acts of sabotage?"

The ADC warned that INEC's conduct raises legitimate concerns about its willingness to comply with other mandatory provisions of the Electoral Act on Election Day that could make the election credible.

"If INEC can disregard the Electoral Act today, what assurance do Nigerians have that it will obey the law on Election Day? What stops INEC from waking up on election morning to announce that it will not use BVAS, or that it will not use serialised ballot papers, or that it has decided to disregard some other mandatory safeguard? An electoral umpire that regards compliance with the law guiding publication of voter registers as discretionary cannot be trusted to enforce the same law when the stakes are higher."

The ADC then demands an independent forensic audit of the voters' register, the identification and investigation of officials implicated in the irregularities, and a full public explanation of INEC's failure to comply with Section 19 regarding the publication of voters' register.

"The 2027 elections cannot be left to the discretion of an electoral umpire that appears increasingly comfortable with breaking its own rules. INEC must understand that compliance with the Electoral Act is not optional. Nigerians deserve credible elections, not a succession of excuses designed to prepare them for a predetermined outcome."

APC'S IRRESPONSIBLE FALSEHOOD CANNOT HIDE TINUBU'S FAILURES, ADC REPLIES ALAKE

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described the latest statement by the APC Presidential Campaign Council, alleging unpaid salaries within our party, as an irresponsible falsehood and another laughable piece of cheap propaganda from a government that has failed Nigerians on every important measure of governance.

We find it rather amusing that a government that has presided over one of the most painful periods of economic hardship in our country's recent history now considers itself qualified to lecture anyone about the welfare of workers.

But perhaps we should not be surprised. When a government has no achievements to defend, it must manufacture allegations to discuss.

"The ADC categorically rejects this allegation as an irresponsible falsehood, deliberately concocted to mislead Nigerians and distract attention from the monumental failures of the Tinubu administration. If the APC has any credible evidence to support its claims, it should produce it rather than continue to insult Nigerians with fabricated stories masquerading as press statements."

We understand the APC's desperation to change the conversation. But Nigerians are not fools.
The real issue is not the imaginary crisis that the APC is desperately trying to manufacture within the ADC. The real issue is the crisis that President Bola Tinubu and his government have created in the homes of millions of Nigerians.

The real issue is the cost of living. The real issue is the absence of jobs and opportunities for our young people. The real issue is the insecurity that continues to threaten lives, livelihoods, and communities across the country.

These are the issues on which this government must be judged, and no amount of propaganda can redeem it.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that the APC has decided to run its 2027 campaign on allegations against the opposition rather than achievements of its own. That is what happens when a government has spent years making promises it cannot keep and excuses it cannot defend."

We therefore advise Mr Alake and his colleagues to spend less time inventing stories about the ADC and more time explaining why Nigerians should reward their party with another term after the hardship, insecurity and economic uncertainty of the last three years.

The APC may control the machinery of government, but it cannot control the lived experiences of Nigerians. And no amount of propaganda targeted at the opposition can erase the monumental record of the ruling APC.

This election is about one issue only: the cost of living that the Tinubu administration has pushed beyond the reach of the majority of Nigerians. The ADC will stay focused on this issue. We will not be distracted. We will continue to hold this government accountable on the issues that matter to Nigerians.

"If the APC has a record to defend, let it defend it. If it has solutions, let it present them. But it should stop insulting the intelligence of Nigerians with these increasingly desperate distractions."

UNPAID STAFF SALARIES: NIGERIANS SHOULD REJECT ABUBAKAR AND ADC CANDIDATES

It has come to our attention that the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress, led by Senator David Mark as Chairman and Ogbeni etary, has refused and neglected to pay party staff for over a year.

We find it unconscionable that a political party that has made many grandiose promises to hoodwink Nigerians owes its workers for more than 12 months. Owing staff who come to work every day and who rely on the salaries for their daily sustenance is wicked and reprehensible.

With this development, Nigerians can now see the emptiness and insincerity of those parading themselves as 'new saviours'.

We have clearly stated that ADC leaders and their presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, do not mean well and can do nothing for our country. Their desperation for power is driven by personal aggrandisement and venomous ill will against President Bola Tinubu. A party that cannot pay its cleaners and workforce cannot be entrusted with our country's affairs.

Atiku Abubakar, the ADC's leader and Presidential candidate, has a reputation for owing his employees. While he regularly junkets to the UAE, staff at his Gotel Communication and other businesses also went months without pay and staged protests over unpaid salaries and other benefits.

The record of the ADC General Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, on paying workers' salaries and pensioners in Osun State, where he was a governor for 8 years, was abysmal. As governor, he mismanaged the state's finances to the point that he could not pay workers. His government thus introduced quarter-salary and, at times, half-salary payments. As for pensioners, he abandoned them for more than four years. Many died because they could not afford the basics of life.

We are therefore not surprised that ADC, harbouring birds of the same feather, cannot pay its workers' salaries.

We are sounding a warning to Nigerians and working people now: reject ADC. Reject Atiku Abubakar and reject all ADC candidates in the next general elections. They do not have the interest of our country and our people at heart. A party that aspires to govern Nigeria and which cannot be trusted with something as basic as the management of its own affairs and the welfare of its workforce should be rejected by Nigerians.

The confirmed case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with the patient, and I commend the health professionals working with urgency to contain the infection and protect the public.

In a moment like this, Nigerians deserve calm, clear e action. I urge the authorities to sustain contact tracing, support those affected and protect the frontline workers risking their own safety to care for others.

I call on every Nigerian to follow the guidance of health experts and share only verified information. The media has an important role in informing the public responsibly and helping prevent fear and misinformation.

Let us stand together, support our health workers and do everything necessary to contain this case swiftly. The safety of every Nigerian must remain our shared priority. -AA

TINUBU WILL ANNOUNCE FUEL TAX ON INAUGURATION DAY IF RE-ELECTED, ADC WARNS
-Say Pump Price May Rise Above N1,500.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s planned implementation of fuel inauguration day, if he’s re-elected, thereby pushing petrol prices beyond N1,500 per litre and worsening the already devastating cost-of-living crisis confronting millions of Nigerians.

ADC was reacting to Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele’s disclosure on the sidelines of the IMF meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, that the government would introduce the fuel tax when economic conditions improve.

The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; however said the government’s real plan is to activate the tax law once Tinubu is re-elected.

“They have already enacted the law for a 5% tax on fuel under the Nigeria Tax Act. And President Tinubu has signed it into law since June 2025. If they are not activated it yet, its because of re-election. Once Tinubu is re-elected, he will announce the new tax law on the inauguration ground, just as he did for fuel subsidy in 2023,” Abdullahi said.

The party warned that at a petrol price of N1,450 per litre, a five per cent surcharge passed directly to consumers would raise the price to N1,522.50, with potentially devastating consequences for transportation, food distribution, small businesses and household expenditure.

“This Tinubu-led APC never runs out of new ways to make survival more expensive. Each time Nigerians struggle to recover from one punishing policy, another burden is waiting around the corner. A government that has already removed fuel subsidies and subjected citizens to unprecedented economic pressures should be discussing relief, not preparing additional taxes.”

The ADC questioned the administration’s justification that the proposed tax would support road infrastructure and fuel-price stabilisation, insisting that Nigerians deserve measurable improvements before being asked to shoulder further financial obligations.

“We recall that as governor of Lagos State, in December 2003, Tinubu vehemently opposed the fuel tax being contemplated by the Obasanjo administration, describing it as “double taxation” that placed unfair burden on citizens. Now, Tinubu does not care if the people are burdened to death,” ADC said.

The party urged Nigerians to embrace the fuel production subsidy being proposed by its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. “It’s the only way to bring down, not only the cost of fuel, but also the cost of living generally,” the party said.
