Yesterday was our Diwali party at @TrakinTech, and honestly, this is one of those little rituals I really enjoy every year before everyone leaves for home.
I genuinely feel people should be able to switch off their work during festivals without worrying about deadlines or apped things up with gifts for everyone, some super-duper fun games (which I somehow managed to lose š), and of course⦠the mandatory Diwali party.
Seeing everyone relax, laugh and just enjoy themselves for a while felt nice.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali ā¤ļø

Finally! After years of delays, Puneās HinjewadiāShivajinagar Metro Line 3 is finally open⦠although some important stations around the IT hubs are still yet to open.
Many people from my team travel through this stretch regularly, and I keep hearing the same complaint, traffic, c. Lakhs of people working in Baner-Hinjewadi section lose hours every week just commuting.
Some useful details:
⢠First train: 6 AM
⢠Peak frequency: every 5 min 30 sec
⢠Non-peak: every 10 mins
⢠Maan ā District Court: ~45 mins
⢠Distance: 23.3 km
⢠Last train: 10:30 PM from Maan / 11:40 PM from District Court
So for anyone travelling to Hinjewadi regularly, this is a BIG deal. Iāve been waiting for this for a long time.
Now letās hope it actually takes some traffic off Puneās roads :)

Canāt believe weāve come from old diesel locomotives to building our own high-speed train sets in India. And, this is a much bigger deal than it looks.
These are actual manufacturing-stage images from BEMLās Bengaluru facility. The B28 is being designed for a test speed of 280 kmph, with BEML building two 8-coach prototype trainsets.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad project may be the first chapter, but the capability weāre building here can be used across the next generation of high-speed rail in India.
From importing technology to learning it⦠and now manufacturing it ourselves.
Thatās the real shift.

Sridhar Vembu says one person with AI may soon do the work of 10.
In media, I already see it in editing, research, scripting and thumbnails. What AI can't do (yet): taste, trust and access.
Someone asked me yesterday "Will you be then reducing your workforce" - I said NO... We will be increasing our output by 10 times.
Creators & founders: what have you automated this year, and what will you never?

Any job performed on the computer has this risk now: one smart person using AI can perform the work of 10 people.
The risk is getting ever more real.
This does not mean 90% of people working on a computer will have no work at all.
Industries that previously could not afford to hire software engineers or digitial marketers could afford them now, for example.
What it does mean is a rebalancing across the economy and that is painful when we go through it.
The only thing we can do is to accept that it is coming and be prepared for it.

And if John Ternus's teaser is any hint, the glowing Apple logo on the back might be coming back after 10 years :)
All updates and early hands-on will be on @TrakinTech, so do d for it?

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BROWSERS AND PHONE OS RIGHT NOW!
For those who donāt know how big this is, this is what it means:
Think of a digital certificate like a passport for a website. It tells your browser: āYes, this website is really who it says it is.ā
In eMudhraās case, 8 keys used to issue those website āpassportsā were compromised. With those, anyone could create "passports" for ANY website, so a fake site could look completely trusted.
The good news:
š Chrome and Firefox blocked them on Oct 17, Apple on Oct 19, Microsoft on Oct 20
š eMudhra says these were never used to issue certificates to any website
š No attacks reported so far
š Your DSC for GST, ROC or Income Tax filings is NOT affected. eMudhra says its India DSC business runs on separate systems
Major browsers are already blocking the affected certificates. The bigger worry now is old software and devices that don't update on their own.
Have you updated yet? Please repost so that it reaches to more people.

Kids These Days....I still remember what mobile internet felt like before Jio.
1GB data was something you actually thought twice before using. Then Jio happened, data became cheap, and suddenly people everywhere were watching YouTube, cricket, reels⦠everything on their phones.
Honestly, even Trakin Tech would not have grown this fast without that shift.
So no, a few failed apps donāt make Ambani a failure in tech. But there is a pattern I find interesting.
Jio does really well where it already owns the pipe or the content... Network. Cricket. JioHotstar.
It struggles more where users have to consciously choose the product every day⦠browser, chat, video calls.
There, habit and product experience matter more than just price. Thatās why for JioPC or cloud gaming, I think the big question is:
Will people use it because it is genuinely good or because it comes bundled with something they already have?

Those who ask Ambani why he don't compete with big companies, he does and, and he has a graveyard of failures there because he can't just use money to win there.
In software, other companies are big companies with cash, they can also reduce their cost, but the small snacks ories can't afford discounts. And he ends up killing those companies.
i) He acquired Saavn to compete with Spotify, god knows who pay for it now.
ii) JioChat and JioMeet, another one to counter WhatsApp and Zoom, no one use because he can't just throw money to win, need to work on UI, UX, Supprt which is lil difficult.
iii) JioPages, his chrome alternative, no one uses.
iv) JioBook, his chromebook alternative, basically a cheap laptop for kids, failed.
And there's too many attempts and none of them succeeded.
And JioPC and his cloud gaming thing are next to fail.

Back in May I said this festive season's phone demand looked uncertain. Didn't expect it to get this bad though...
Global smartphone shipments are down 20%. Lowest Q3 since 2012.
2012 yaar. Galaxy S3 aur iPhone 5 wala time.
And it's not like people don't want new phones. RAM crazy expensive, so phones are ~20% costlier this year. Budget buyer ke liye sabse tough hai.
Premium is still selling though. Apple crossed 20% Q3 share for the first time.
So basically... AI companies are buying up all the memory, and the guy who just wanted a ā¹15K phone is paying for it :)

Honestly this was uncalled forā¦
Dear Prime Minister Ambani,
Please accept my humble apologies for not realizing that you are the real boss of India.
Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete?
There are many areas of India, as there are in all countries, with no Internet access, which denies children the opportunity for education and for small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods to a global market. Starlink would change their lives for the better.
Thank you š

While I agree that no company, including Starlink, should be stopped from doing business in India, I also think people are overestimating how disruptive it will be here.
India is an extremely price-conscious market. JioFiber starts around ā¹399/month and Airtel broadband around ā¹499/month. Starlinkās India pricing isnāt official yet, but satellite internet is unlikely to compete with terrestrial broadband purely on price.
Where Starlink can genuinely change things is rural India, remote areas, highways, mountains and places where laying fibre simply doesnāt make economic sense.
So yes, let Starlink come. More competition is always good. But I donāt see millions of Jio/Airtel users suddenly switching to Starlink just because Elon Musk launches it.
Its real opportunity in India is probably where Jio and Airtel donāt reach well, not where they already dominate.
And interestingly, Airtel itself has partnered with SpaceX around Starlink distribution, which makes this less of a simple āStarlink vs Indian telcosā story :)

Unfortunately, we are being blocked by certain oligarchs in order to maintain their monopolistic chokehold on the Indian people. You can guess who they are ā¦
This is a crime against the people of India!

From Mumbaiās perspective, I completely understand why people are unhappy about flights shifting to Navi Mumbai Airport.
But from Puneās perspective⦠this could actually be a big win. Pune still doesnāt have the international airport it deserves. For many international routes, we anyway travel to Mumbai.
Now look at whatās changing:
Missing Link has already reduced PuneāMumbai travel time.
Direct e-Shivai buses to NMIA start at ā¹450.
And geographically, Navi Mumbai is on our side of Mumbai rather than having to cross the entire city to reach CSMIA. :P
So while NMIA may feel like an inconvenience for some Mumbai flyers, for Pune it could genuinely become the more practical international airport.
Funny part is⦠Puneās second airport might actually be in Navi Mumbai.

Captain Smit Machchhar deserves huge respect for this.
On Flydubai FZ1073, he was allegedly stabbed by the co-pilot while the aircraft suddenly lost thousands of feet of altitude. Despite being injured, he helped get the cockpit opened so the crew and passengers could intervene, and the aircraft was eventually diverted safely to Saudi Arabia.
Just imagine how badly this could have ended with 170+ people onboard. In aviation, a few seconds can separate a scare from a catastrophe.
Whatever the investigation ultimately finds about the motive, the presence of mind shown by Captain Smit and everyone who stepped in deserves genuine praise.
Wishing him a speedy recovery.

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery.
Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker ā preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.
He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.
I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.
He is a true hero.

I donāt think this is going to work the way we expect.
If social media is banned for under-18s, most teenagers will simply change their DOB, use a parentās account, or find another workaround. But Iāll still say this, the intent behind the rule is good.
Kids definitely need stronger protection from what social media has become.
The real challenge is not making the rule. Itās finding a way to enforce it without turning the internet into an Aadhaar verification exercise.
