if you've held bitcoin for 5+ years, I bet your financial life looks like this

DCA running with River, Swan, or Strike

custody with unchained, casa, or DIY hardware wallets

separate IRA account

bitcoin backed loan with another account

cash sitting in a bank paying 0.01%

you've got a system but it's fragmented and increasingly complex

and when your wife asks you "where could I find the bitcoin if you die?" there's no easy answer

Inspired by @CorySwan to post short videos regularly.

Today’s post coffee thought- we have to build, always, no matter what. we have to outbuild the entropy of the bad decisions that other people are making around us

For thousands of years, money settled only as fast as people, horses and ships could move. The telegraph sped up information and left settlement behind.

As @LynAldenContact articulates, bitcoin lets settlement move at the speed of information.

Coldcard. Ledger. Trezor. Bitget. Binance.

Entropy bugs, supply-chain attacks, data leaks, exchange hacks.

Each traces back to a single point of failure.

With Multi-Institution Custody, there isn’t one. Three independent institutions, none can act alone. You stay in control.

you'll feel better immediately once you have a bitcoin inheritance plan in place that you can rely upon

we just created the Bitcoin Estate Check as a short, free quiz to help you figure out where you're at, and how you can improve your plan

onrampbitcoin.com/lp/estate-chec…
Your Bitcoin could outlive you.

But can your family actually access it if you’re gone tomorrow?

A seed phrase hidden in a drawer isn’t an inheritance plan.

Neither is assuming your partner will figure it out.

Self-custody means taking responsibility for it, including what happens when you’re no longer here.

Have you made a plan for that?🔸

hold your own keys, or trust an exchange, those have been the options

until Multi-Institution Custody that is

now there's a Third Way

most of our clients still hold some btc in self-custody, and augment that with Onramp so that they can have peace of mind

i wonder how many hardware wallets have been sold over the years that were never even opened.

think about the friends and family who actually listened to you about bitcoin. how many of them self-custody? probably very few. they bought the device and never got past it.

give those people a way to own bitcoin long term that actually feels secure, and i think a lot of them would own far more.

that’s what i’m seeing multi-institution custody unlock.

A weekly bitcoin buyer who started at the 2021 peak sat through a 77% drawdown and is up 80% today.

Time in the market outweighed timing the market.

Consistency and conviction mattered more than the entry price.

Investors assume Coinbase will never be hacked and the ETFs are safe, but no single custodian is infallible.

Multi-Institution Custody takes institutional key management, multiplies it by three, and requires two to sign before any bitcoin moves.

Binance lost $6.3B last week, the largest crypto hack ever and likely the largest theft of any kind.

Bitcoin’s worst close since is about 5% below its pre-hack price. Mt. Gox and Bitfinex each cost it 11% to 12%, and FTX cost it 23%.

Bitcoin custody still looks like 1970s computing, and most people will never care to learn it.

Jobs and Gates built trillions shipping computers anyone could use. Multi-Institution Custody does that for bitcoin, with no single point of failure.

bitcoin might be invincible

but as holders, we are not

when it comes to bitcoin backed loans, the borrowers with the most peace of mind are the ones who left themselves room. Lower LTV, extra collateral ready, no panic when the price drops
