China has expressed firm opposition to a US Treasury proposal expanding restrictions on American investment in China, calling it discriminatory and a misuse of national security, and warning that the measures would also harm US companies.

China strongly opposes new #US proposed rules expanding limits on American #investment in China, calling them discriminatory and a dangerous overstretch of “national security.” The Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday that the move hurts both countries’ businesses and undermines the US to respect market economic principles, stop overstretching the notion of national security, and refrain from politicizing or weaponizing trade and economic issues, so as to create a favorable environment for China-US economic and trade cooperation.

@GeneralElectric #investment into #JetEngine development has never quite been done in the manner it should have been in #Bharat . #China has so far pumped in over $42Bn into domestic engine programs between 2000-2026 . #India has since 1989 only invested $400Mn into KAVERI .
Reminder that in flight trials conducted at #Russia between 2008-2012 the GTRE KAVERI passed while the #Chinese WS-10 failed miserably . The Chinese went back to #Beijing & pumped in $16Bn over a decade to create their own effective modern function #Jet Engine manufacturing ecosystem .
We came back from Zhukovsky triumphant at having beaten the #chinese & then sat on our haunches having Chai Samosa . If #Beijing now beats #India in Jet Engines it is because like the proverbial Hare we chose to stay still while they like the proverbial tortoise kept trying to get ahead.

#Bangladesh’s #investment slump deepens as key economic indicators flash warning signs.

Bangladesh recorded a sharp decline in inflows of net foreign direct investment (#FDI) in the first half of 2026 as fresh equity inflows from int'l #investors slumped, raising concerns.
is year, net FDI declined 28% year on year, from over $1,100 million to roughly $795 million, according to the latest Bangladesh Bank (BB) data.

According to Abdur Razzaque, chairman of Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID), the weakness in equity capital inflows was particularly serious.

The latest central bank data showed that net equity capital inflows dipped 55%, from $345 million in the first half of 2025 to $155 million in the same period this year.

In his view, investor confidence was being affected by both domestic and global conditions. Apart from global issues, investors are being deterred by the country's macroeconomic strains, persistent energy shortages and wider business-environment related challenges.

Experts are saying that three key indicators are flashing warning signs: imports of industrial machinery are falling, private-sector credit growth remains below 5%, and government development spending has slowed to a crawl.

Bangladesh imported $506.9 million worth of capital machinery in July and August, the first two months of the 2026-27 fiscal year, according to Bangladesh Bank data. That was down 32.5% from $750.7 million in the same period a year earlier.

Private-sector credit growth, another key indicator of investment appetite, stood at 4.75% at the end of August, up slightly from 4.62% in July, Bangladesh Bank data show.

It had fallen to 4.47% in June, the lowest level recorded at the time, after standing at 4.98% in May. Despite small monthly fluctuations, growth has remained below 5%.

The government’s own investment drive is also lagging. In July and August, ministries and divisions spent Tk 57.1 billion under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), equivalent to just 1.85% of the total allocation, according to the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED).

Together, these paint a picture of an economy struggling to turn greater external stability into productive activity.

Business leaders blame high borrowing costs, energy shortages, concerns over law and order, and uncertainty over whether new investments will generate adequate returns.

“How can there be new investment? Who will invest? Who can guarantee that an investment will bring returns? For many, even keeping their existing businesses afloat has become difficult”

Said Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, the president of the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) and a former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

One friend bought an expensive phone 3 years ago.

The other invested the same money, hoping to buy 2 phones with the same invested money after 3 years.

3 years later, the second can’t even afford 1 phone.
