How “scoopable” is frigid Moon soil? 🌑🥄 @NASA needs to know as it looks to build bases on the Moon and utilize resources on the surface. In response, @UTSA researchers are recreating lunar conditions in the lab to learn how ice, soil and rocks behave in extreme conditions.
In a $1 million @NASA-funded project, UT San Antonio researchers will look at how icy lunar soil behaves in the extreme cold of the moon's permanently shadowed regions.
The effort, a collaboration with @SwRI, could improve the way scientists extract, transport and process lunar missions.
