Super pumped to be leaving for @NDC_Conferences Oslo in a few weeks. If you haven’t grabbed your tickets yet there’s still time!

I bet most AI features are built in the same way. Write a prompt, check if it looks fine, and then push it to production.

How do I know? I've done it too. The problem is that you keep tweaking the system prompt: bug fixing, different use cases, new capabilities...

And then it's one asks it something different.

This is not a new problem. We spent years arguing about test coverage. Whole conversations, whole opinions about what's worth testing and what isn't. Then we got these "magical" functions that no one can predict what comes out. Since they are nondeterministic, we just use "yeah, that seems right".

And the fix isn't that clever. Before you touch the prompt, you write down what a good answer looks like. You keep the inputs you actually care about instead of making up new ones every time. Then you run them again and compare. That's it, that's an eval.

That's why I'm pulling evaluations out of the bonus material. They are now in the main track of my workshop at @NDC_Conferences Oslo.

It felt wrong to have the part about knowing how good my agent is sitting in the optional pile.
