📣 Coming soon to GitHub Copilot: intelligent local model routing.

We are excited to announce the next step in our Project HydraFusion vision. GitHub Copilot will soon be able to automatically route tasks to a local model when it's most suitable, helping you save on AI credits.

Working with outside collaborators can add more work for a repo owner, from confirming access to changing permissions.

To keep up with manual housekeeping for one shared org, we decided to use Evergreen: a GitHub App built with native GitHub features.

The workflow 👇

While you're waiting for GTA 6...
Spent a bunch of tokens over the last few weeks building a fully procedural New York simulation.

It's only 784KB gzipped and the code is on github, so you can do whatever you want with it ✌️

Spent the weekend testing out our new Universe badges with my son. He gave it a 10/10. RP2350 on MicroPython, 2.8" TFT, accelerometer that auto-flips the screen, capacitive gaming controls, and an AGENTS.md so Copilot can code + deploy to it. 🤓

As traffic grew exponentially, we moved 99.99999% of GitHub's Git repos to Azure. A new write path moves the last, busiest repos, keeps cross-region round trips from capping throughput, and enables stateless Azure Blob Storage replicas. x.com/i/article/2112…

Chopin + Proof-Driven Development Kit from @GitHubNext and @MSFTResearch enable teams to ship AI-generated code to production without reviewing it line by line, with stronger assurance than code review and testing alone.

Now in research preview ⬇️
How do you _guarantee_ your agent's code is correct? You prove it.

Introducing Proof Driven Development Kit (PDD Kit) from @MSFTResearch.

PDD Kit helps turn your plan into a formal spec, then proves the agent's code meets that spec for every input. No vibe verification. PDD Kit HubNext's Chopin, so you can plan as a team.

PDD Kit takes an app's login flow from intent to a verified pull request:

It discusses your code, infers your intent as it goes, and proposes a formal spec in Verus, a proof language for Rust.

Once you approve the spec, the Verus verifier automatically proves the code meets it.

Where proof isn't possible, it falls back to empirical verification with tests and computer-use agents (CUAs).

It works on Rust today. No new language, no change in how you produce the underlying code, making formal methods more accessible.

The goal is a verified software factory, where engineers review specifications instead of code.

Come see it in action at GitHub Universe, Oct 28–29. Swing by the Speakeasy and ask for GitHub Next!

Most high-impact bugs are still authorization issues, says one top GitHub researcher. When it comes to AI, a fast car still needs a good driver.

We worked with maintainers, including @tianzhouchen, to build a better way to track GitHub stars over time.

The new API returns daily star counts without exposing who starred a project, making star history easier to retrieve, cheaper to serve, and more private.

Here's how we built it:

Your workflows have changed with AI. How about your setup?

Physical controls are back. Take the new Logitech MX Keypad, now directly integrated with the GitHub Copilot app.

This experience allows you to run agentic workflows with control, map a repeated prompt, start or resume stay in flow.
