You set up the affiliate program and you wait.
And wait ๐Ÿฅฑ
Still waiting, but no affiliates are coming.

Lots of people think that setting up a program and publishing it on the website or company's social media will make the deal.
It's not true. Your affiliate program is as recruitment.

And we know it's not an easy task. But we also know there are a lot of strategies that can help you make money and lower the effort.

We gathered them in one guide: firstpromoter.com/blog/how-to-reโ€ฆ

Not sure where to find affiliates for your SaaS?

Lots of people aren't. So instead of another "how to set up a campaign" guide, we prepared something you can use to actually find the right people to promote you.

Louis Anghel, our Head of Customer Success transferred all his 5+ years of experience in a first-line customer support role into a guide you can use right away.

In the video:
โžก๏ธ 3 places to find affiliates
โžก๏ธ Commission worth promoting
โžก๏ธ Signup page with screening questions
โžก๏ธ Assets and the welcome email
โžก๏ธ First applications approved on camera

Imagine your publisher inflating their numbers while promoting your product.

Are you angry? Decide to kick them out of your program right away?
Well, it might not be the best thing to do.

Inflation isn't that bad per se.
๐Ÿ‘‰ First, look at whether there's an organic part to ranking on YouTube for the keywords they claim?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Check for fluctuations, even the minor ones.
If that checks out, you can negotiate better terms instead of cutting them.

Tautvydas Vasiliauskas has seen these moves plenty of times. In the clip he explains what's fine and what to be careful with.

Are you ok with your affiliates using AI-generated content to promote you?
It's alright if you say no. And it's fair to say yes too.

Doesn't matter much if they use it, but it matters how. And what you are ready to accept.

This is one of those things around an affiliate wouldn't have thought about a year ago. But now, with AI content all around us, you have to.

So specify it: what counts as AI-assisted, what counts as fully AI-generated and what you'd call fake traffic.

It's a small thing from a guide we put together on how AI changed the game: from spotting fake publishers to rewarding the ones AI tools actually recommend.

How does the typical vetting process look?

It's hard to say about "typical" when in most cases it just... doesn't exist.

And that's surprising, because

One mandatory question on your signup form, like "what's your social a lot of bad sign-ups out. Add an AI check on top, and the weak ones show up fast.

Of course it won't catch everything, and it's not meant to. It just stops the worst of it reaching your list without you noticing.

In this video Tautvydas Vasiliauskas shares what he keeps seeing after more than a decade in affiliate marketing: youtube.com/shorts/QUUecTKโ€ฆ
But it's one bit of an ebook we put together on how AI changed the game, from fraud and fake publishers to the tracking problem nobody's solved yet.

Let's state the obvious: nobody wants to pay a fake publisher.

What's far less obvious is how easy it's become to approve one without noticing.

Most managers still check the traffic: graph looks ok, so the publisher must be real. Not anymore - a healthy-looking traffic chart est things to fake.

The first fix is the dull one: stop trusting traffic on its own. It keeps budget away from sites that won't exist a month later.

That's one piece of a bigger shift in how AI changed the game, so we put what we know into an ebook.
Fake publishers are a small part of it, next to which "suspicious" signals are actually fine, fast applicant triage, and rewarding the publishers AI Overviews already recommend.

Do you think our "launch in 15 minutes" claim sounds like marketing oversell?

Fair enough. You can't really know until you try yourself. All we can say is that we see customers do it every day.

And we also see that because it's fast and simple, some people let their guard down.

Your affiliates are busy.

More than 77% of them work solo* and almost all promote several products at the same time.

So you are fully aware that you're just one item on their long to-do list. But that doesn't mean you can't move your program closer to the top of it.
well your product converts, trust in your brand - it all matters.
But one more thing is so obvious it's easy to forget: ๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐š๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐š๐ฅ.

If affiliates can quickly check their clicks, conversions, earnings, and find the assets they need without digging around, you're making their job easier.

So when you're choosing affiliate software, think about more than your own dashboard.

Setting up an affiliate program takes minutes, but knowing every edge case it should handle takes experience.

For example: when a customer upgrades, should the affiliate still earn commission based on the original plan, or should it increase with the new subscription?

After r support role, Louis Anghel has seen these edge cases across many programs.
In this video, he builds a program from scratch: connects Stripe, creates a campaign, sets the commission, adds the tracking script and confirms a referral actually tracks.

Overpaying affiliates hurts your margins. Underpaying hurts their motivation.

Both usually come from the same setup mistake: ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ง'๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ .

Louis Anghel, our Head of Customer Success, shows how to go from a blank account to a tracked referral in just a few minutes. And wrong commission setup is just one of the two mistakes he covers.

Your affiliate data is only as good as the conversions behind it.

Paying commissions on fraudulent referrals isn't the only cost of affiliate fraud. It can also distort your performance data, making it harder to see which partners are actually driving growth.

Even a basic catch issues before they affect your reporting.

The checklist below is a good place to start. For a deeper look at affiliate fraud and how to prevent it, check this article: firstpromoter.com/blog/affiliateโ€ฆ

Is comparing feature pages enough to choose the right affiliate software?

That's a good start, but the important part is understanding which differences matter for YOUR business.

Take recurring commissions: easy to spot on a pricing page, but how a platform handles refunds, ns and transaction fees usually isn't.
And details like those matter even more as your program scales.

Affiliates go quiet for a simple reason: nobody gave them what they need to start.

The first 10 affiliates won't find you. You have to go get them yourself. 5 places to look:

โžก๏ธ 1. Your existing customers. The people already paying you are your most credible promoters. Check who has referred someone, even informally.

โžก๏ธ 2. Niche newsletters and content covering your category. One mention from a trusted voice beats 50 cold signups.

โžก๏ธ 3. Adjacent tools in your stack. If your product integrates with theirs, their audience already understands the problem you solve.

โžก๏ธ 4. Consultants and freelancers in your space. They advise your ideal customers daily. Trust is already built.

โžก๏ธ 5. Affiliates promoting complementary SaaS tools. They understand the format and are already warm to the category.

CAC is up, organic is flat, the last campaign underdelivered. Everyone's in the room. Nobody has a great answer.

This meeting happens at almost every SaaS company eventually. Usually when paid acquisition stops being a reliable lever and the team runs out of familiar options. to split companies in two.

๐Ÿ‘Ž๏ธ One group pours more into what's not working, usually more budget, more tests, same underlying problem. The math keeps getting worse.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ The other group asks a different question: who already trusts us, and how do we make it easy for them to say so?

Partner-led growth isn't a quick fix. It takes time to build and real infrastructure to scale. But it's one of the few channels where the economics improve as you grow and not the other way around.
