Hey folks. This month my partner of 19 years @mitzommar was diagnosed with metastatic (stage 4) breast cancer.

We’re devastated, but hopeful that modern treatments can give her many more years.

It will be a long road and if you’re able, we could use your help.

And there it is. DLSS 5 is built on a lie from the go.

What is it going to take for games media to stop taking these tech reps, publisher execs, and studio heads at their word?

Even if there was someone on the art team who wanted to implement this garbage, why should they get to speak for everyone?

Why should one team lead arguing for putting his people out of a job suddenly end the discussion on those artists’ intent?

Love to watch all the artistry of my favorite medium get completely obliterated by the world's biggest tech company in real time.

I will play PS2 games for the rest of my life if i have to, but i will never touch this dogshit.
Your future of gaming, sir.

Can’t wait for all the Youtube videos sooner or later claiming this absolute shit as a “graphical improvement” and saying “no one wants to play those ugly old games the way they used to look”.

Feeling burnt out lately after an insane amount of life change. Asked my partner for a weekend off so I could start the new year with a little retreat.

“Gonna spend some time with those games you bought on the Winter Sale?”

“Nah, I’ve got something else in mind.”

Demon Attack (1982, Imagic) - Intellivision

I spent my morning testing out a Mattel Intellivision that a friend gave me and came to some pretty startling conclusions. The console’s (very) noisy RF signal goes some way to adding texture to its simplistic graphics.

Centipede (1983, Atari) - Intellivision

What is striking to me is how in motion, through the haze, this truly does FEEL like playing Centipede. The player can make out just enough information to keep things playable, and the soundscape is mostly in tact as well.

Donkey Kong (1982, Coleco) - Intellivision

I’m not saying any of this is preferable, but it’s a far cry from the blocky objects I’m used to seeing when I’ve played games from this era via emulation over the years.

But man… no wonder the NES felt like a revelation lol.

Ah yes, another one for the “testing the visuals on a composite consumer CRT” collection.

So glad I could contribute to this excellent video!

Thank you Noodle for reaching out and for reminding me why I love this art and the humans to thank for it over the technical aspects it’s easy to get lost in. You really, truly nailed it.
NEW VIDEO ABOUT CRTs AND PIXEL ART I CAN'T LINK IT BECAUSE THIS SITE WAS MADE BY HITLER BY YOU CAN FIND IT RN ON THE CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta celebrate @NoodleVEV’s work on this Scanline Sunday as well, because damn he included some genuinely well-shot examples

What a great day to be thankful for what you have! Once you start to see the value in “obsolete” technology, it’s impossible to justify just how short our upgrade cycles have become.

Call me crazy, but I think TVs, phones, computers, etc SHOULD last for decades.
No CNBC, it’s not device hoarding it’s —MY PHONE STILL WORKS FINE AND I’M NOT GOING TO SPEND $1500 FOR A SLIGHTLY BETTER CAMERA AND AN AI FEATURE THAT I’LL EVENTUALLY DISABLE

Found this old test footage of Aliens vs. Predator (1994) running on an cheap Hitachi via the MiSTer Analog IO Board's composite.

After everything, CRTs are still so magical to me.

I've been cutting down my collection lately (as we've been moving to a smaller home in a new city) and it's reminding me what drew me to the technology in the first place before I got a bit lost in the discourse.

Final Fantasy IX marks the moment I fell in love with the craft of video games and the artists who bring them to life. That small, thoughtfully considered detail can outshine the broadest horizon.

Lately I’ve been reviewing Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on Nintendo Switch 2.

My full review will be up on my podcast, but I’d like to unpack a few thoughts here as well.

tldr; This is an excellent remaster with its own strengths and weaknesses.
